Death provokes many unanswerable questions, many superstitions have originated to try to explain it.

...If a cow moos after midnight, someone in her owner's immediate family will die soon.

...If a bat flies into your house, a very close friend will die soon.

...If a dog howls after midnight, someone in the immediate neighborhood will soon die.

...If someone accidentally places three chairs in a row, a close relative of his will soon die.

...If a cricket chirps in your house, someone in the immediate family will soon die.

...If a sick person is moved from one room to another for any reason, he will soon die.

...If someone counts the vehicles in a funeral procession or points his finger at any of them, someone in his family will die before the year has passed.

...If anyone holds an open umbrella over his head in the house, a close relative will die within six months.

...If three crows fly over your house, someone very close to you will die within a year.

...Anyone who speaks ill of a dead person will lose a close member of his family within a year.

...When a family member died and was laid out at home, it was the duty of the oldest relative living in the house to turn every mirror to the wall until the body was taken to the cemetery. If the chore was neglected and someone saw his image in the mirrors, he would die within six months.

...When a death occurred in the family in some of the rural areas, one of the family was sent out to the beehives to turn them around and tell the bees the sad news. It was believed the the bees would attack and kill a member of the dead person's family if this was not done.

TJ, you're right. The "Pea Theory" absolutely must be added to this thread as well!

Sounds like the entire human population would have been killed off

My Mum always used to get worried if a clock stopped for no good reason. If it stopped just because it wound down that was OK. We all got to live a bit longer.

If it happens these days it only means the battery is dead.

I used to hear that dreaming of losing a tooth meant death! I suppose it was of import which tooth and who lost it! I don't know, really. Three crows, in my mystic mind, mean a letter! The Death card in the Tarot, rarely means outright death.......

Sparrows carry the souls of the dead, it's unlucky to kill one.

In the rhymes I've read, six crows means death. Of course, it depends on the rhyme you use I count crows all of the time, 'cause I'm just strange that way
