Harish,
You love these long words, as if the name of the enzyme itself wasn't enough.

So where would one be most likely to find this wondrous alphabetical monstrosity? Certainly not on the back of a shampoo bottle I will guarantee.

Just to be difficult harish_256 the name does not follow the IUPAC convention and does not distinguish the many different isomers of the formula .

Er...Tielhard, I'm not sure if I'm correctly gathering what you're saying -- but do you mean there could be other compounds which could be given the same name? I think the probability of a compound with the same atoms being discovered is rather low , so maybe you could stop being so pedantic!

Sorry harish_256 it was a bit of a joke fallen flat rather than pedantry. What I meant was that C1289H2051N343O375S8 can potentially refer to several thousand compounds. The name <insert long name here> is still not completely specific and may referer to several dozen or even more compounds.

This is because there are a number of atoms in the compound which, due to thier configuration have two different forms which are mirror images of one another. These atoms are known as chiral centres. Each chiral centre can give rise to two different compounds.

I hope that explains what I was talking about.

Oh, Tielhard, no problem at all! I hope you didn't take what I said seriously!

Yes, I understood what you mean there, but now I don't get what I 'chiral centre' is! I'll leave it at that...

{Edit}

Okay, just found out: IUPAC = 'International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry'.

Maybe the substance should carry a warning:

'The name of this product may create a need for severe horizontal scrolling when viewed by some brands of Internet Browser.'
