Recently got this e-mail in my inbox and thought I'd put it up in case anyone here is an eBay customer (and I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before):-

Subject: Please update your e-bay account information
Quote:

Dear eBay User,

During our regular update and verification of the accounts, we couldn't verify your current information. Either your information has changed or it is incomplete.

As a result, your access to bid or buy on eBay has been restricted. To start using your eBay account fully, please update and verify your information by clicking below :

Regards,
eBay

Getting the message stuck me as strange seeing that I'm not, nor never been, an eBay customer. Being curious, I clicked on the link and found I had to give the following information:-

eBay User ID (Hmmm, not a customer so I don't have an User ID)

Password (As Above)

First Name & Last Name (Surely they could check my incomplete records to get my name!!)

D.O.B. (As Above)

Social Security Number (Huh? Social Security Number? I'm in England. We have National Insurance numbers here NOT S.S.Ns. And since when do you have to put S.S./N.I. numbers in your account information? Looks a bit dodgy this does!!)

Alternative Password (Since I don't even have a password, why do I need an alternative?)

Credit or Debit Card Number (Yeah right, I'm really going to give out my credit card details when I'm not a customer)

Expiration Date (As Above)

CVV2 Code (As Above)

ATM PIN (Bank Verification) Number (Ding Ding Ding, ALARM, ALARM. What the f***? ATM Pin number? To verify my bank? A PIN number can NOT be used to verify bank details. It only allows access to your account via an ATM. Hmmm, wait a minute. OK, I'll send it. While I'm at it would your like my house keys and alarm code? How about the combination to the safe in my house? Hang on, I've just found my car keys, would you like them as well?)

The site that the link leads to does look offical and even includes links to the proper eBay site but it IS a hoax, seeing that I forwarded it to eBay and they replied to confirm it was (Surprise, Surprise). It is pretty obvious when you look at the information you have to fill in that it's not genuine, but some people may be caught off guard.

Dazzy - I got the same thing. I tried emailing it to eBay to let them know (via safeharbor@ebay.com), but that address doesn't work anymore, and by the time I got a 'delivery failure', I had deleted the message.

If anyone else gets them (or ones similar) and are having problems forwarding them to eBay then use - spoof@ebay.com

It's the address I used and they replied within half an hour (on a Sunday!!)
