Cricket is becoming an international trademark for India. I know India is good in Cricket, but not as good as it was in Hockey once. Anyways, I think many would surely choose Sachin Tendulkar as the best Indian.

A great Indian - gosh there are so many! I can't even start. All our freedom fighters.

If I was an Indian entrant in an international beauty pageant (which I'm not, thankfully for me as well as viewers), I would definitely say Mother Teresa.

Tendulkar is great, but he's not consistent. Out at 17 one day, not out at 120 the next day.

Music - has anyone heard 'Chandu ke chacha ne chandu ki chachi...' by Aasma? I never heard a sillier song that could hook you so fast...

What are your favourite movies? Mine's Dil Chahta Hai, Andaz Apna Apna, Padosan...

This one's becoming popular with each passing day, and anybody can guess that the so-hyped aasma lack good lyrics. Well, my favourite song has to be 'U R my soniya' from 'K3G'.

For movies I'll go with HAHk

Sorry guys, this is a bit off topic, but I've got a question

Yesterday my dad came home from the office with this huge piece of material, large enough to cover a queensize bed, with a gorgeous geometric design on it. I've never seen anything quite like it before. In fact, we don't even know what it is! Apparently a new woman at the office from India distributed them among her co-workers.

By it's size you'd think it should be a blanket or quilt, but it's thin as paper. Does anyone here happen to know what it is? I thought it MIGHT be an Indian thing, as the patterns aren't like anything I've ever seen before. Just wondering.

I don't think anyone can pick a "favourite" person out of this list, they're all great people in their own right. Making comparisons between them isn't a very fair thing to do to any of them.

I would, however, pick Gandhi as the greatest Indian, in at least modern India.

And yes, I believe the polls don't work.

It may be a sari. Silk saris in West Bengal are just like that and cost a lot about Rs 2000 and above here. It may be a sari, in fact, I'm sure it is.

To Ankur's poll, I can't choose anyone. All of them are great in their own era. Mahatma Gandhi was one of the best freedom fighters in the 1940's. Sachin is a great cricketer in this era. Amitabh Bacchan ruled the roost of Hindi cinema and still does in some films. As for Atul Bihari Vajpayee, no comment !

I thought you mean Atal ji. The polls didn't work, but I came to know that Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is still a great person. A living legend; my views are these.

Well, the Sari thing, I don't think it is a sari. Why would the employee distribute it to everyone, including misty's dad. But then, other clues indicate that it's sari. So, I leave this undecided.

Why would a piece be given to everyone? The saris that I have seen are very beautiful and I would be delighted to receive a piece of the fabric as a gift. If my husband (when I had one) had been given a piece by a colleague to bring home to me, again I would have been thrilled and delighted.

I think that is a fair point. Silk saris are really very expensive and I don't think it will be distributed like that to all members. But I feel it still is a silk sari. I think the person's family might be into the sari business. They may have got a few leftovers and decided to distribute it.

India is really doing very well in terms of economy, progress and modernisation. But, this question has been in my mind for many years now :
During the time of independence, Congress failed miserably to avoid the partition. Jinnah won and got Pakistan. This resulted in disastrous riots all over the region between Hindus and Muslims. So, should we say that India was the clear loser? Was Gandhi totally unsuccessful?

Well, what is the result of partition? Which country has got the benefit?

No way, Ankur.

India wasn't, because, after all, both India and Pakistan suffered. People on both sides had to go through this, people on both sides were killed.

The result of partition - difficult to say, really. After all, it was long back. As to which country has benefited, there is no real benefit. If there had been no partition, it was have been a larger country, and a slightly richer country. But what of it? After all, India's economy is going quite well now.

Look at the hatred at that time, which led to the partition. Look at the hatred which exists even today. Wouldn't it be difficult for both countries to come together now? Peace summits etc are on, but how much time will it take for cross-border firing to stop, for the end of militants in J&K? These are questions yet to be answered.

Put it this way, MM...

The aim of Jinnah and ML : partition
Aim of Gandhi and congress: no partition

And, is there any need of telling what happened next? Jinnah won, and Gandhiji....

INDIAN CRICKET TEAM IS TOURING PAKISTAN!!

What do you think? Is this just cricket?
