We are reading "The Odyssey" in my literature class, and I am just wondering if anybody read it, and thought it was good or bad?

I read the Odyssey once, about 2 or 3 years back and I hated it. The language was a bit difficult to me and it was pretty boring. I was desparete to forget it so I don't know too much about it now. Now what I really like is Shakespeare.

I didn't like it all that much. I much preferred the Iliad, probably becasue I found the character of Hector so much more noble, interesting, and tragic than Odysseyus.

Odysseus is the man

Hopefully, I will get it better as we keep reading it though. It seems interesting.

I just finished reading it, and it is a WONDERFUL study of Greek culture. Plus, it is an interesting story! Watch for the comparison between Odysseus/Agamemnon, Odysseus/Athena, Telemachus/Odysseus, Penelope/Clytemnestra, etc. There are so many foils in the story, and they all show the difference between civilization and barbarism. The Odyssey is full of interesting and HUMAN characters. Odysseus makes mistakes, so he isn't just a perfect role model; he is a womanizer, loses self-control, and tends to be arrogant. Sounds like some people I know... I thought it was a great read.

We are only reading book 9. We are in the middle of the Cyclops story. I'm starting to understand it better.

I took the quiz today. It wasn't that bad. We got to use our notes, so that made it somewhat easier. We're going to start the movie tomorrow. Hopefully it's good!
