Researchers in Costa Rica recently noticed Capuchin monkeys engaging in an odd behavior! Finding a ripe citrus tree, the monkeys bit the fruits and then rubbed them furiously over their coats. Turns out citrus not only repels mosquitos..it helps heal bites--the researchers, suffering as well, copied the monkeys' behavior.
Another group of researchers studied a group of Capuchins in Venezuela and were mystified when the monkeys spent time searching through termite mounds and peeling bark off certain trees. They were looking for a particular millipede. Then, they'd bite it in several places, and begin rubbing the milipede over their fur. Got the picture? The millipede's system contains chemicals which are used in manufactured insect repellents!
(The researchers said the monkeys will share a millipede and are chastized by the other monkeys if they ''Bogart'' it.)
Since local people use these same techniques--who do you think taught whom???

(This IS a "Useless Fact"...unless you're in Costa Rica or Venezuela....)
