How can you not like Friends or Charmed? Those are my favorite shows! The worst TV show would have to be any funniest home video shows. I don't see what is funny about people getting hurt or little kids crying. I don't like Yu-Gi-Oh or Dragonball Z either.

We can count soaps, right?
The absolute worst show I have ever seen is the soap opera on NBC called Passions. Even for a soap opera, the story line is slow and stupid. I would never have watched it, except a few friends of mine got hooked (I don't know why- maybe because of the good-looking actors?) and forced me to watch with them. Can anyone tell me why there are witches and evil powers in that stupid, boring show?

I think the worst show I've watched is, aside from "Jerry Springer", that "Jackass" show on MTV. Or whatever network it is on. Must we glorify the public display of human frailty? Recklessness, cheating on your spouse---where's the entertainment in any of that? Some of the others mentioned I'm not familiar with but those two came to mind. And if I see two strangers lip wrestling in a hot tub anymore I may have to hurl. That whole genre is pretty bad, too.

There's this ABC soap opera called Port Charles that had really bad ratings (wonder why?) and it was booted off the air about two weeks ago. It was pretty bad.

There are some pretty bad ones out there, here are the worst in my opinion: Proud Famiy, Charmed, Dragonball Z , What I Like About You, Pokeman, Jerry Springer, Lizzie McGuire, Jackass, 7th Heaven, That's 70 Show, Everwood, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, According to Jim, 8 Simple Rules, Will and Grace, Girlfriends, Joan of Arcadia, Hope and Faith, Less than Perfect. There I think I named all of the really bad shows. My brain hurts now.

Well somebody has to say it so I will STAR TREK and all its vile spawn.
Actually thats no longer true, reality tv has hit a new low in Oz with the introduction of Starsearch where the contestants dont even have to sing, just mime to there a selected artist. And theres a judging panel!

I must confess to a shameful enjoyment of American Idol, but other than that one exception (no, two--I like Last Comic Standing as well) I'd have to say just about ANY reality TV show would qualify. It would be too hard to pick the worst--but maybe this wife swapping one.

I would have to say: Ed Edd and Eddie Power Puff Girls Phil of the Future House Hunters (is kind of boring) Landscapers Challenge Designers Challenge Wife Swap For Love or Money (most of the shows on Cartoon Network) Any anime type show where the words don't match their mouth and every body looks/acts really weird. I can't think of anymore at the moment but I know there are more. Frodobeh

Some pretty bad shows I loved as a kid are: Scooby Doo (dumb "special guests", every show followed the same formula, and then there was Scrappy Doo and Scooby Dum), Three's Company (sort of a distillation of all that's bad about the Lucy Ball branch of sitcoms), and a cartoon called Superfriends (apparently written by psychopaths who flunked out of school-- a guy called Seanbaby has a very funny Superfriends website, a quick google will find it for you if interested). About the best thing I can say for these shows is that they weren't the sort of extended commericials my stepson watches if given half a chance.
I live in Australia now and I've been exposed to a whole new world of bad TV. I've seen quite a bit of Neighbors, for instance, mainly because it used to follow the Simpsons and I'd leave the TV on while I messed about on the computer. I hear Neighbors is big in the UK, but UK TV is some of the worst on Earth from what I've seen, if all you get is the BBC services. Plus they have to pay for it!
Aussie TV has a load of so-called lifestyle shows and reality TV. My wife has a minor weakness for the latter, so I've seen more than I'd like of Australian Idol, Wife Swap (UK show), etc., and there's also the Yank shows like Survivor. I can't really call them bad so much as uninteresting to me personally.
One reality show I thought I'd like is called The Colony and is based on the American PBS show Frontier House. Unfortunately, The Colony seems absorbed by trying to make drama and the people on it are annoying. I rather like the Tasmanian family, but the Irish guy is an idiot imo.
For some reason, SBS shows this (American?) program called Erotic Tales-- terrible, terrible, terrible. With a name like that you'd expect it to be pretty bad, but I found it unwatchable.
And there's this show on in the morning here with this oily redheaded fat guy I've seen a couple times... it's supposed to be a news show or a talk show but it plays like an infomercial. Empty eyed cap tooth shills come on to sell cleaning products. It's fascinating in its badness. It seems the host is quite popular as he's in all sorts of commercials. I don't think there's really an American equivilent for this guy. They should export him-- to Mongolia.
Please don't get the idea that I'm down on Aussie TV, I'm not. It's better than American free to air, what with two state channels. And it's light years better than the BBC. My only real complaint is that the reception is pretty bad considering that we live right in the city.

You can't have visited the UK for at least 40 years if you think we only get BBC. There are two main BBC channels plus various others on cable or satellite. There are many national and regional independent channels, and literally hundreds more on cable or satellite. Many of these channels are available free of charge through a system called 'Freeview' which uses a simple decoder costing a one-off payment of about £40. An enormous advantage of the BBC channels is there are no irritating, tedious adverts constantly interrupting programmes, but presumably you enjoy these if you feel the BBC is so bad. As for paying the BBC a license fee, do you seriously think you are not paying the commercial channels and their advertisers ans sponsors? Of course you are, maybe not directly but most definitely in the price you pay for the products.

That's nice, but I already knew you can get cable in the UK. That's why I said "if all you get is the BBC services". Obviously, given that the British are some of the biggest couch potatoes around and that the BBC is pretty bad, they're watching something else. Freeview isn't available everywhere and it's not free if you have to pay for it, by the way.
It's also nice that the BBC doesn't have commercials. What's bad is what they show and that you're charged for it. I just checked the BBC listings for Sunday evening, traditionally when the biggest audience is watching. At 8pm, you have a choice of an antiques show, snooker championships, a soap (did you know the English number one most likely people to watch soaps?), and some incredibly dreary sounding documentary? game show? reality program? called Who Rules the Roost.
OK, so what about at 9 pm? Another soap, a game show, The Bachelor, and a celebration of British jazz. What's worse, I've checked it before and this is better than usual. And you have to pay for it!
I'll take the commercials, thanks. I think commercial TV is superior because they actually show what people want to watch. I've had this discussion before and inevitably somebody will come along and say "but I like gardening shows/ antiques shows/ snooker". Well, that's fine, but I don't. Our TV isn't on enough to justify paying anything anyway.

So many to choose from and so little time. I would quickly agree with the reality show binge, outside of Amazing Race which is great, but my kids have been watching rerun after rerun of the incredibly horrible and unfunny Full House on Nick at Nite. I've had my fill of it.
