If you found a bank envelope with $2000 in it, would you turn it in to the authorities or keep it? Why? Would there be any specific criteria that would determine which of the above you would do?

Homeless Man Gets Big Reward For Turning In Lost Cash

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Honesty is paying off for a homeless man.

Dana Hughes was walking through Columbus, Ind., on Oct. 17 when he found nearly $2,000 stuffed in a bank envelope.

Even though he only had 25 cents in his pocket, Hughes said he never considered keeping all that dough. Tuesday was the deadline to claim the cash.

When no one came forward, the county treasurer gave the money to Hughes.

Hughes was at his sister's home in Oklahoma when we got the news about his good fortune. Hughes says he'll use some of the cash to pay back a restaurant owner, who gave him money for bus fare.

I would hand it in to the police, no thought required.

Over the years I have handed in a few things that I have found, a gold watch and more recently when my daughter was in her very early teens she found a gold bracelet. After the specified period of time we checked with the police station and as the items were not claimed they became our property and we could wear them with a clear conscience.

Someone handed in my credit card folder when I dropped it, I was very grateful - 'do as you would be done by'. Honesty pays.

When I have found a very small sum of money, perhaps a pound or so then I put it in a charity box.

I was at a footy match once and my team scored a last gasp goal, everyone jumped around for joy and things went flying. After the game finished i found a wallet on the ground, it was stuffed with money and cards. My friend said "keep it, the person who lost it wont miss it".
Well it was December 20th and i could not do it so i handed it in...

had to be done

I once found $5.00. but I don't remember where... I ended up giving it to a lady in line at te grocery store ahead of me that didn't have enough money to cover the few items she was purchasing. She was very thankful and She looked like she really needed the help.

I would, without a doubt return it or hand it over to someone of authority.

I found a wallet on a shelf in a department store. I looked and it has around a $100. I took it to the service desk. I expected them to try to locate the person because he might still be in the store, but they did not. I have wondered if he got his wallet back, and if all the money was in it.
If it find another I will call the owner my self.
I had a friend who dropped his walled with 500 in it. Girl at the store found it and immediately called him. He gave her 200.
We had an incident here where a local known dope peddler was stopped and searched by authorities. They were about to let him go when my friend on the force noticed a canvas bag stuff in a corner under the hood. It had $70,000.
The truck owner denied it was his. I wonder what would have happened if that had fallen out and been found by a motorist.

I found £200 recently, and I so needed the money as I was in big time debt and this would have kept people at bay but I knew I shouldn't. Thing is I wasn't going to give it in to the police either as I reckon they would have pocketed it. So I typed up a poster saying that if anyone had lost anything then to ring this number and give me a full description of what it was. I got a call from this guy who said his mum had lost £200 in the same spot that I found it and he told me that it was in £20's and £10's and was in a brown leather wallet which had a cigarette burn in the bottom right hand corner. I looked and there it was! I figured this must be the person so I met them - the woman who lost it was in her 80's and it was her pension. Could you imagine? She must have been so upset! Either way, resolved...
