Paint-by-numbers was a widespread fad in the 1950s. The sets came with paint and colorless pictures pre-printed on canvass. The images were divided into areas numbered to correspond to paint colors. You filled them in. Unfortunately, a production error in one of the first sets had armchair artists painting a green bull and a beige matador. Boy, did the manufacturer see red!
