I was browsing the 'net for oddities about the English language, when I came across this 'sentence':

Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo.

And it makes sense!

An explanation:
Buffalo -- that town in New York state which is where the University of New York at Buffalo is located (edited for LadyMacb's pleasure! );
buffalo -- bison; those big, stinky ruminants, that generally give very creamy milk;;
buffalo -- to baffle or bewilder;
buffalo -- again, bison.

And so what this sentence says, is that bison from Buffalo baffle bison.

I recall this being mentioned in some quiz or the other in Quizzyland, but can't remember which one it is.

Harish,

Have you see the 'had' statement? Eleven 'had's in a row,, and it makes sense!

The following sentence has 21 "ands" in a row:

Wouldn't the sentence "I want to put a hyphen between the words FISH and AND and AND and CHIPS in my FISH-AND-CHIPS sign" have been clearer if quotation marks had been placed before "FISH," and between "FISH" and "and," and "and" and "AND," and "AND" and "and," and "and" and "AND," and "AND" and "and," and "and" and "CHIPS," as well as after "CHIPS?"

Makoto,

that sentence left me cross-eyed!

Mine is about an English test...

John, where Sue had had 'had had' had had 'had'. 'Had had' had had the teacher's approval.

Have beat you by one ozzz

Can you correctly punctuate the following, which has 12 "hads" in a row?

Ann where Bob had had had had had had had had had had had had written next to it as a correction.
Answer:
Ann, where Bob had had "had," had had "had had." "Had had" had had "had" written next to it as a correction.

(Ann and Bob were taking a grammar exam.)

AHEM! There is no such place as the University OF Buffalo! It's University AT Buffalo. Or, more exact, the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Sorry, as a graduate of there I couldn't resist correcting this common misconception.

With the accepted system of binomial nomenclature of organisms, biologists refer to bisons as:

Bison bison.

('Bison' is the genus and 'bison' the species.)

This is a welcome relief from the usual Rana tigrina, Passer domesticus and Myxovirus influenzae type things, and one scientific Latin name I shan't have any problem remembering!
