You thought 'Peas' were bad. Now according to Dave Barry, carrots can burn your house down.
Doug Forland, who explained to him, while experimenting with carrots in his microwave oven, he made this alarming discovery.
He claims that if you break a carrot into two pieces, then place them on a plate so they're just touching, then cook them in the microwave, "intense flames will start to shoot out of the carrot at the contact point".
Carrots are relatively large objects (compared to, say frozen peas) and because microwaves are essentially varying high voltage fields, a large alternating electrical potential exists between the highly conductive charred sections.
Is there a conspiracy going on here??
If Peas don't kill you, Carrots will.
