Lord if you have played Warcraft one and two and these two games honed your gaming skills any I feel that you will soon lose your addiction.I found Warcraft three to be a great disapointment myself. The game was certainly aimed at a lower age this time around[ok because of this fact anyone under twenty[?] will enjoy the game more].There seemed to be no great,if any, improvement on the two previous games. It really was too easy to finish the game for me compared to the other two.If you havn`t played either of the previous games I would recommend them to you..............Hehe then learn about addiction maybe .Starcraft still has me after years of playing it. That said I am glad that you are enjoying the game,it`s great when someone gives you something that you actually use and play.

I grant you the campaign is very linear
but it is still very fun
using battle.net or a LAN is very cool!

yes, I've played the first two
and I also do have StarCraft
I like III because it is similar yet different
than the others.

I liked that in StarCraft
I could quickly build a freakin' horde and go after people
or that my opponents would come up with a fantastic strategy based on the terrain and whup my rear

Warcraft II and I were just too easy for me
the AI really blew
now with III...the AI is better
no more easy wins for me

Now to be fair I'm not a big fan of real time games
cause honestly I'm not quick enough on the keyboard
but I do enjoy them, for some reason
I prefer the slower pace of turn based strategy games
where I can think through things and plot
the whole reaction thing is something I'm not too good at
Civilization and Heroes come to mind

I love the WarCraft III graphics...they are stunning
the poke factor is still hilarious!

Definitely Roo's. It was very predictable and used surpassed technology. After the spate of games using 2/3 angles (which incidentally Blizzard did not create with Warcraft 1 as some assume, it was in fact Westwood with Dune II) I think the popularity waned somewhat. Warcraft III was for the devotees of the series and those caught in the hype. While it was still a hugely successful game, it failed to meet sales expectations.

Blizzard has enjoyed the best reputation for quality, balanced and bug free games of all the publishers. This is their problem. They won’t release a game until they’re satisfied of its quality. Unfortunately for them, 3-4 years is a long time in the world of gaming, and technology and player trends continually leap frogs their output. By the time a game hits the retail shelves, it’s old technology and there are usually better alternatives. Diablo II is a good example against Baldur’s Gate II. It also affects the marketing side of the release.

Launching a computer game is very difficult. Unlike the movie industry, the games industry doesn’t have deep pockets and can’t shelve a game until market conditions are right. Blizzard continually miss production and launch dates – by YEARS! I remember the Aussie marketing spend on Diablo II, booking media, retail catalogues, shirts, posters etc only to have Blizzard fail to release the game anywhere near schedule. Very frustrating and $100,000 wasted, but nothing compared to what was wasted in Nth America. Blizzards publishers, Sierra, Havas and now Vivendi Universal have all beaten their heads against the wall! I have Warcraft III t-shirts in my cupboard that where made in the USA 2 years before the game launched!

Anyway, I’m waffling. Battle.net is a wonderful addition for entry-level multiplayer gaming and indeed has contributed to Blizzard’s success. Starcraft is STILL the most perfectly balanced game, one that I have enjoyed and will enjoy for many more years.

After having played Star Craft Brood War using Battle.net for the first time today I cannot but agree with the sentiments expressed by LordAndry and Bertho. It is great! The opponents are a heartless lot, even after explaining that this was my first day using it on line they still destroyed me in no time flat . I personally cannot find any joy in defeating another player in five minutes by quickly creating ten cheap fighters and then slaughtering workers. Enough sour grapes though. Having access to players worldwide is terrific. Having to change tactics to combat people rather than the computer is an enjoyable challenge that will take some time to adapt to.
