Just on a side note, geckogurl, your avatar is not showing. You could try this thread to see how you can make it work.

Sue, what about Lewis Carroll?

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

I am also fan of Johnny Depp, but I have many favorite celebrities, like Lily Taylor, Tom Waits, Charles Bukowski, and Bruce Sterling.

Sorry, moosey, but I honestly don't know what that means. Could you please let me know? Thanks.

I think I've mentioned before that I like the X-Files a lot, but I watch most of the Sci-Fi shows.
There are a lot of bands/ singers I ike ( for example Bon Jovi, Limp Bizkit, Die Toten Hosen (German punk band), Queen)
but I don't really have a favourite one.
The same goes for actors/actresses.

Until I actually began reading it, I thought this thread was about celebrity obesity, and I was going to mention Marlon Brando. At least the thread isn't about being obsessed with celebrity obesity. That could lead to one heavy argument, perhaps, deciding which celebrity is actually obese or maybe it wouldn't matter, one might still obsess over their obesity. Personally, no matter what the weight of Renee Zellweger, she will always makes my heart flutter.

Who CARES about the "Obsessity" thing! You all knew what she meant! It still has "obsess" in it, it's not too hard to figure out what it means!

Now actually on the topic- I have many "obsessions"
Tim Curry
Jake Gyllenhaal
Gregory Peck
Jimmy Stewart
Viggo Mortenson
J.R.R Tolkien (do authors count?)
Audrey Hepburn
Julie Andrews
Katherine Hepburn
Orlando Bloom

The list could go on for a LONG time, but those are some major ones.

I bet I'm really confusing you people- a younger person who READS and knows about older films! Oh the horror! I bet the world is collapsing around you as I type!

I really see no reason for you to rant like that, LMC. Why don't you talk about your celebrity obsessions in a nice way?

And just for the record, I had absolutely NO idea what obsessity was supposed to mean.

I wasn't trying to "rant" it just made me mad that some people on this site seem to view young people like the normal stereotypes and are somewhat closed minded towards us. I just wanted it to be known that I am not one of the stereotypical young people. Sure, I have the "teen idols" but I am aware of literature and the "classic" films.

When I was in 8th grade, I had read the original English translation (you know, the one with 'vicissitude' and other such words) of "Phantom of the Opera" 20 times. In 9th grade, I discovered that I liked opera.

I don't think many of us here have the stereotype that every 10 year-old loves Harry Potter and every 12 year-old girl wants to be Britney Spears.

And, to keep this on topic - I was obsessed with "Phantom of the OPera." I think I've read the translation I referred to above about 50 times. I saw the show as often as I could and listened to almost nothing but recordings of the show!

That is quite a rude statement, younger people who read are just the type of younger members who we welcome with open arms at this site. It is the other type that do not fit in so well with us older members, those who think that reading is 'boring'.

Wow, only away two days and look at all the new material! Well, no one can say this thread isn't popular!
My contribution from the collective consciousness for the week (which I'm sure a few more UK members saw) on 'Who wants to be a millionaire' on Saturday. Question on films, 4 answers, I guessed the right one, A, and guess who it was... (Clue: initials were T and C). I felt truly inspired as I felt they must have been reading this before setting the question or maybe it was a lucky coincidence.

My daughter is involved in a production based on "Annie" at her school. In fact, I am going to see the performance today. She is singing a solo: "You're never fully dressed without a smile". Anyway, getting back on track, as she had never seen "Annie", we got the DVD from the video shop. Guess who was in it as one of the bad guys? (hint: initials are T and C) I quite enjoyed seeing him in a very different role compared to Frank'n'furter. I wonder if he actually did the dancing or whether there was a stand-in. If he did his own dancing, I'm really impressed!

I know, Tim! They only time he used a stand in was when he did the spins on the stairs railing and when he slides down it.

I totally agree with Sue, that was kind of rude. Especially since you probably don't know all of us that well. I for one am a teen who reads constantly, and I love old movies...even silent ones! I'm all about some Jimmy Stewart, Paul Newman, and Audrey Hepburn.*SHOCK* All I'm saying is, don't make snap judgments.

There's nothing with being "young" and I don't believe that anyone is saying that there is. I'm a little obsessed with Bette Davis, and was when I was just in my teens (despite that she was 50 plus years my senior). I couldn't get enough of her. Now I'm kind of stuck with the Cameron Diaz/Britney Spears folks. They're very good at what they do but I'm not so sure about longevity. Look out for that Charlize Theron, though. I'd call her a definite "keeper".
