I can’t find a calendar beginning in 2761 BC, but the Jewish calendar begins on 7 October 3761 BC, according to the “Oxford Companion to the Year.”

Well that might explain why I was having a problem but it has to be out there somewhere. Thanks for trying Tabby Tom.

I've found a site stating that the Hebrew calendar started on October 7th 2761. It's this site, it's in German though...

This site doesn't mention the exact date, but it does mention 2761 BC as the year the Jewish calendar begins.

Quote:

Rosh Hashanah not only marks the beginning of the year. It also celebrates the anniversary of the creation of the world, 5764 years ago in the Jewish calendar. Converted to our calendar, that's 2761 BC.

I think Leau has got it.

But surely, if the Hebrew/Jewish calendar begins 5764 years ago, it must begin in 3761 BC. We’re now in the 2003rd year of the Christian/Common Era, and 5764 minus 2003 is 3761.

Thanks for the help Tabby Tom. The correct answer seems to be 2761. Or at least that is the answer they wanted. I appreciate your help and your math skills. I never would have been able to figure that out.

PF, try this site. It has information on all "your" calendars, except for the buddhist one.

Is it possible that 2761 was a typo and should have been 3761?
