"green-eyed monster" comes from Shakespeare's Othello, spoken by Iago to Othello about the other's jealousy of his wife Desdemona, which Iago is using to destroy the moor.

Also, how about "the moon is made of green cheese"? It comes from the new moon looking like a fresh, unripened wheel of cheese, or "green". tjoeb};> [Big Grin]
