Here's an interesting question I uncovered while researching a quiz: a painting presently in the lobby of the Manoir Richelieu Hotel in Quebec, Canada was used as the design basis for what well-known (to U.S. stamp collectors) stamp?

Queen Isabella was depicted on both the 5-cent and $1 values of the U.S. Colombian stamp series of 1893. "Columbus Soliciting the Aid of Isabella" was depicted on the 5-cent value. The painting from which this stamp was designed is displayed in the lobby of the Manoir Richelieu Hotel in Quebec, Canada.

root17,

Another interesting fact about Canadian stamps..
Did you know that all Canadian issues for the last 70 years or so have the year of issue in tiny typeface somewhere in the design? You may need a magnifying glass to see it, but it is there.

I have been a collector for almost 40 years and always enjoy the challenge of finding the date.

Cheers from Down Under,
