Is this a legal site, as I did pay a subscription to this, found the music I was looking for, but then decided to uninstall when I saw the amount of spyware and ads it came with. I was actually trying to find Kazaa Lite which is advertised as free , but kept getting the subscribe option and ended up with Kazaa 2.6 Has anyone else had experience of this site and can offer advice. Having paid about £14 for two years membership, I am undecided what to do next. Many thanks.

Many pages have been written about Kazaa. Stances vary tremendously. I've seen one discussion run to 9 pages about it. Try typing: 'is kazaa legal in uk?' into a search engine and you'll see what I mean. I saw one discussion running into 9 pages. There are lots of articles to read written by those who make it their business to be in the know about the issues.

I wouldn’t like to advise on the legalities of its uses because there’s too many pitfalls on copyright. It’s probably best to read the arguments for and against that abound on the Internet and then form an opinion.

Kazaa *is* free - where did you pay for it? I know there are some unscrupulous websites that 'charge' for it just to make money.

Do a search for Kazaa Lite... I think the website is www.kazaalite.dk (I'm pretty sure the country code is .dk). There's a good forum on that program and regular Kazaa plus a ton of FAQs on the program and troubleshooting things.

Kazaa *is* legal, but downloading/uploading copyrighted material is not. Kazaa isnt' a website - it's a program that allows you to search for files on other people's computers and download them and allows others to download from you.

Kazaalite is the same thing as Kazaa, except without the adware.

Lady M's right, neither Kazaa site charges unless Kazaa has started recently, in which case I would have used Kazaa lite instead. Obviously it's too late now, but it hasn't cost too much and you do get a lot for it. The URL is www.k-lite.tk They (TK) are an independent web host and not an actual country code.
Legally, I'd echo TW to not get too involved with that side, but though the Americans prosecuted a few heavy users (I don't know if the cases are over yet) the British authorities have no plans to do anything about it.

Kazaa Lite does work well, though both Kazaa programmes go down from time to time in their own special ways. K-lite is a bit less reliable, but when Kazaa went funny it used to slow the whole computer which is why I stopped using it.
Finally, don't get caught downloading programmes without an anti virus protection, I had 3 sobig attempts in a row hidden in a firewall and it was all caught in advance. Kazaa itself has no virus protection and will pass all files sent including nasties without vetting any of them.

Kazaa v2.6 is also free, if you want to put up with the adware. If you download it straight from www.kazaa.com, you shouldn't have any problems.

The legalities are a different issue. Plenty of reasons for both sides of the argument to think as they do. But one thing is clear: The US is going to have a tough time prosecuting crimes on a global level. They just don't have the jurisdiction.
