I've asked this of several people, and no one seems to know the answer.

We tend to hear the above song from "The Sound of Music" quite a bit around Christmas time. I remember singing it in choir all the time for Christmas concerts when I was young. But, why? Why is this a Christmas song? Yes, it talks of snow in one place, but it also talks about whiskers on kittens.

Does anyone know???

I have no idea. The odd thing is that in the movie, it isn't even wintertime. Maybe it's about the "brown paper packages tied up with string." You tend to see a lot of that at Christmastime .
