When I do a scandisk, it starts over & over & says to turn off programs. I always do that before starting scandisk ,including turning off screen saver. Also with defragmenting, it takes about 3 hours. It says drive contents changed & restarting. Win 98.

I find I really do need to turn off everything I possibly can, internet connection, virus protection, all stuff in the startup menu. It ALWAYS tells me I have to run scandisk first. That always seems to fix it though. The defrag works then, and takes about an hour or less.
