I saw this movie Wednesday evening and wanted to know what others thought of it. Were you disappointed with some of the liberties taken? Did you like the movie? Dislike it?

I haven't seen it yet, but the two people who have seen it said it was the best of all three and they couldn't believe how good it was.

I read the book earlier this year prior and was pleased with the transition. There was a huge glaring omission, but I personally don't think it harmed the flow of the movie by removing it. Just personally, I agree that this was the best of the three. I ended up becoming very emotionally invested in the lives of these characters, and had tissue handy for this movie. (I ended up really needing the tissue as well).

OK, I'll try not to post any spoilers... I still think that the first movie was the best, but the third was definitely better than the second one, and although they omitted *one important character* and thus changed the ending, I thought it was not as bad as I'd expected. The effects and everything were of course brilliant, and I was very much impressed by John Noble (Denethor). I missed Beregond, though All in all, it was a great ending to the trilogy, and it widely conveyed the spirit of the book. Of course, there are some things one could argue about, but I won't. I think that some aspects of the book simply cannot be brought on screen. Oh, one thing: They could have omitted the scene where Legolas finishes off the Oliphaunt on his own. I mean, I laughed, but it was SO clear that this scene was only put in for the delight of Legolas's fangirl contingent... (Sorry, girls, I know that Legolas is good-looking. But this Orlando-hype is really too much for me...) But I was scared to death by Shelob... and I'm really hard to scare! Also, I thought that the beasts the Nazgûl ride on looked more realistic, that is, less animated, than in the second movie. I shouldn't go through the movie scene by scene, I know... or else I'll accidentally post some spoiler

I also found the books far too hard to read. I have listened to the abridged audio version however.
I love all three movies but I prefer to see them as one extra long movie and not to compare the three to each other especially as they were all filmed at the same time.

I do the same thing, I think of them as one long movie. They could be the best movies I have ever seen.

I have seen all three movies at the cinema and have seen the extended DVD versions of the first two and thoroughly enjoyed them all. I recommend that you see these extended versions, as many vital parts have been cut from the screened versions.

I also saw all three movies, plus the first to extended editions. Wow! They are very, very good! I recommend them to anybody!

I saw the latest installment of LOTR (and loved it!) I got the books for Christmas and can't wait to read them! Right now I'm working on "The Hobbit" though. Just for background...

What can i say? Amazing,spectacular,overwhelming..there are many ways to describe the movie. I can't say which one i like the best out of those three movies, cause to me i see LOTR as one long movie, not 3 different ones.I loved "Return of the King" just as much as the other two.It must be impossible not to be caught up in the story, the special effects and the good performance of the actors. For those who haven't seen the trilogy i really recommend that you do

I loved all three and a half hours of it. I had tears streaming down my face by the end, as did one of my friends. My Mom thought I was crazy for sitting through so long a movie, but I loved every minute of it.

Crazy is watching a marathon.
The first time I saw Return of the King was Boxing day (opening day for Australia). The second time was the weekend after at a movie marathon. All 3 movies from 9pm to 6.30am. That was pretty intense. And last weekend I did one (when the DVD came out) but this time it was at home and from 2pm to 12pm (with multiple breaks). And I'll probably do another when the extended Return of the King is released! I love these movies completely. I love the books as well. When you think about it seriously, it would be completely impossible to make the films any better.
An interesting note is that the scourging of the shire was left out because Peter Jackson didn't like that part of the book, and Saruman does appear in the extended edition.

A few weeks ago, I finally got to see the first and second movie in the extended edition, and I now take back some things I said about the second movie. At the cinema when it came out, I was very much disappointed because I thought, "What the heck are they doing with Faramir???" When I saw the extended edition, and the scene with Boromir, Faramir and Denethor, I could finally understand why they made these changes, and with this background knowledge, it was perfectly understandable. But they really shouldn't have cut the scene from the final version, because it makes us who have read the book wonder whether they had really understood Faramir's character. Without this additional scene, all you see is that Faramir wants the Ring - which is in every bit contrary to his reaction in the book. Yes, he lets Frodo and Sam go in the end, but still you keep wondering why he reacted the other way. With these additional scenes you get a glimpse on Faramir's relation to his father, and that Denethor always preferred Boromir - and then, of course, you understand why they made Faramir react the way he did in the movie.
Sorry, I'm rambling It's just that Faramir is my favorite character in the book, so this was one thing that struck me about the second movie.
As to the third movie, I already stated my opinion. Let me just add that I would have loved to see a little bit more of Faramir and Éowyn, but still it was OK. That scene where Denethor tells Faramir that he would have preferred Faramir dead and Boromir still alive simply broke my heart! I take a bow before David Wenham - he was so brilliant in this scene. When he leaves the room, you see in every move of him that there goes a broken man... It made me want to get into the movie and just hold him (I know I sound like a crazy fan now, but Faramir always creates this impression on me. I guess that's why, of all female characters in the book, I always identified with Éowyn).

I have loved the LOTR movies. I am a huge fan of the books too. I had a contest with a friend to see who could watch the Fellowship of the ring the most in a month.
I won with 76 times...haha.
I was a little disappointed because the Return of the King left out a lot of things from the book. Oh well, I'll just wait and see if they add it in the extended DVD.

76 times, gee...how many times did you watch it in a day?
Your eyes must have been sore by the end of it.

It's weird, I never really got sick of watching it because its such a good movie.
I watched it about five times a day, depending on my plans for the said day. On the last day I had to get 7 in to win, I barely made it, but the 7th credits started rolling about 10 minutes before midnight.

I loved ROTK. It was my favorite out of the three movies. Fellowship is my second fav and Two Towers third. I read all three books and The Hobbit...ROTK was also my fav book. The ending is just sooooo sad. The first time I saw it in theaters *spoilers* I started crying at the part where Aragorn says to Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin, "My friends, you bow to no one." Then him and Arwen bow and everyone else bow down to them. I started crying and I cried till the end of the movie...the most I've ever cried in my WHOLE life. I even laughed at one point when i was crying. By the time the Grey Havens part came my crying had slowed slightly but then Frodo said good-bye to all of them and i just started crying again. It was so bad I wasn't looking at the screen, I was looking around it cuz I didn't want to be crying as I walked out of the theatre....It was kind of pathetic but oh well. I don't cry as much at the end anymore...only at the Grey Havens. I thought it was amazing...the acting, the effects, the emotions, the excitement, the funny-ness....yeah it was awsome. *sighs* frodobeh

I prefer Harry Potter books and films rather than the Tolkien trilogy but I have just watched all three films. I quite enjoyed them, really like have Sam was protrayed and I found the ending of ROTK very good. I can see why they won so many awards.
