Two things happened today, I received a letter from my ISP telling me they had (at last) installed a spam trapper (which I immediately activated) AND my new Nortons 2004 arrived with its improved spam trapper. I haven't had a piece of spam in my inbox for about an hour, this is bliss.

I am not expecting them to trap everything but if they catch the bulk of it I will be well pleased. It doesn't take much to please me, this certainly pleases me.

What a nice ISP you have. I wish mine was the same. It would have saved me changing my primary e-mail address.

You'll probably miss all those great offers now the SPAM has stopped.

No spam, well almost none (1 in three hours), but I have had a few blips probably with Nortons 2004, like the computer switched itself off, just like that, then one again, also a few error messages and it is on a go-slow. I even had a message to say one of the disks was checking itself, it would be sod's law to have bought new anti-virus only to have the computer pack up.

As for the spam, it had become hundreds per day, not a joke. We use the same ISP at the office so have the spam catcher there too, the past week I have deleted all the spam just before 5pm then check it first thing in the morning and typically there would be about 120 from overnight, loads of that is gross porn.

Congratulations Sue
You will like the diminished spam, tho it will not get it all as you already know.
My server started scanning my e mail and sorting spam a year or so ago. I was at the point where a new address was the next move. In the first few months it required a little tweaking to let some mail through and to catch other.
Now I just have to go to the server spam file and "delete all". About 500 a week.
I still sort some after it comes to my computer to catch even more spam. But it is manageable and I still have the same e mail address I started with 10 years ago.
Sue,, your trouble experience and that of others has been mine in dealing with virus programs so I choose none.
They just seem to cause far more trouble than they hope to solve. Hope you get yours to working.

However I would doubt that Norton is causing a shut down.
You might let us know what the error messages are.
Jax

My computer had a well-earned break over the Christmas period and was switched back on yesterday. All was well until I attempted to use the Anti-Spam which has appeared on the toolbar, if I use that it throws me an error message and shuts down Outlook Express, it cannot be re-opened unless I reboot the computer and that takes an age with my computer. If I leave well alone and not attempt to tell it that something is spam it behaves well and the small amount of spam getting through is acceptable, not only acceptable but as I said, sheer bliss.

Sue that is my computer philosophy too. If you can make it work by holding one foot up, just do it, because the cure is usually worse than the disease.

I am beginning to feel unloved, instead of receiving several hundred emails each day I am only receiving them in the tens! I can live with this, it will just take a little getting used to though.

Funny you should say that. I quite missed the annoyance I felt when weeding out the couple (if that!) of wanted e-mails from all the rubbish.

I don't get any SPAM at all since changing the e-mail address. Very often there are no new messages of any kind on the server.

No longer can I mutter, phrases like, "That's disgusting" - "I can handle my own finances thankyou!" - "No I don't wan't a loan" - "Keep your webcam to yourself" ...and other such words.

I don't miss it so much that I want all that stuff back again though!

The only spam I seeem to get nowadays is for presciption meds, it's all I get but there is about 5 a day - which is nothing to some of your stories. I used to get ones for enlargment of certain private areas of the body - one I can't use and the other doesn't need it.
