My family own a large Italian Restaurant and I am interested in what Italian foods are the most popular in your areas. I am thinking about altering the menu a bit and would like you guys to tell me your favourites!

I love pasta cabonara, could eat it every day!

Question for you peasy, is Italian food here in restaurants like real Italian food?

You will find in Italian restaurants where the chef themselves are native Italians the food is traditional and authentic to a point. You have to remember that most Italian Restaurants out of Italy have to adapt to the culture and country that they are in in order to attract business and make a profit. Australian tastes are different to say southern Italians (where I am from) so when we cook the dishes we have to adjust them slightly to suit the clientelle.

I went to a restaurant called Mamma Amalfi's a couple of months ago and they do a really gorgeous dish which was chicken in white wine sauce - it was heaven. Don't know if it's considered very italian though

Italian food is very popular in Argentina, considering the vast inmigration of Italians who came to the country at the beginning of the 20th century. I am half Italian, half Spanish. Pastas in general are very common here. It's a tradition for families to gather on sundays and have Italian Food for lunch. I must say I love any type of pasta (raviolis, spaghetti, lasagnas, gnoquis). And there's one particular Italian dessert, which I absolutely love; it's called Tiramisú. It's basically made with coffee, chocolate, mascarpone cheese and moist cookies. It's great!

Yikes! What would life be without tiramisu!

A Melbourne family who have a restaurant, (and this is an unashamed plug for 'Woodstock' in Nicholson St) come from Calabria and mama cooks everything. Except for son Tony who makes the best tirimisu I have ever tasted. Father does the pizzas in the woodfired oven.
However, although she is not from the north she makes a Livornese sauce with egg plant.

Livornese tortellini is to die for.

Just a suggestion for the menu.
