The new computer is up and running (basically anyway). I didn't build it this time. I priced up what all the parts would cost me to buy (including the XP Pro operating system) and found that it would be about the same as paying to have it built. The company did it quickly and it all works OK. I hope it stays like that because the company is not within driving distance.
Here's the specifications:
*Intel Pentium IV 3.0GHz (800MHz fsb) processor
*512MB PC3200 DDR400 memory (1 x 512MB)
*Asus P4S800 ATX 400/533/800 fsb motherboard
*Intel approved heavy duty heatsink & cooling fan
*On-board AC97 3D stereo sound
*On-board 10/100 RJ45 network LAN
*IBM 80GB (7200) EIDE hard drive
*GeForce FX5200 128MB DDR 8x AGP SVGA card w/TV Out & DVI
*16x EIDE DVD-ROM Drive (with software)
*52x 32x 52x EIDE 'burn-proof' CDRW (with software) 1.44MB Floppy disk drive
*ATX Nokia 8870-S midi tower case with 400 watt power supply
*MS Windows XP Pro (installed, configured & supplied with installation CD and licence)
The only things I would really have liked to have added to that was a DVD re-writer (rather than just a player) and another 512Mb of memory would have been good. These were cut out in the interests of keeping costs down a bit. A good spec nonetheless.
A new keyboard and an optical mouse should arrive today.
