I keep getting an error that says 'class not registered' when I try to play files. I downloaded a new DivX player that played about 2 seconds and tried doing what was suggested in Microsoft's newsgroups, to no avail. I'm not positive if these files are 'good' anymore because they're from when my harddrive crashed, but I don't think it's possible that all of the video files in the one directory are bad.

So, who can help me here?

Whenever I have problems playing video files I run them through a free program called G-Spot. It determines which codecs you need to play the files and which ones you already have. Maybe it could help with your problems too?

By the way, are you using the latest version of Windows Media Player? And did you try playing the files with RealPlayer or another player?

Same error with RealPlayer.

And I should be using the newest WMP - I updated everything 2 weeks ago when I put in the new harddrive.

Update: Tried the program - it looks like the files are corrupt. That's a great program, by the way. It showed I had more than enough codecs installed.
