I'd have to say "Insomnia" is my favorite King book. It stuck with me long after I finished reading it, and I have even gone back and re-read it a few times.

I think my favorite King book is "Cujo." When I was younger, I used to hate the dog because of what he did, but now that I'm older and a little wiser, I sympathize with the dog. It's not his fault he did what he did, it was his owners' fault because they never took him the vet for his vaccinations.

I'm with you on that one, Lisa. When I read "Cujo" when it first came out, I cried in sympathy with the dog and I refused to see the movie when it came out. I still haven't seen it. I'd have to say "The Stand" was my favorite. I think I mentioned elsewhere at FT that I got so engrossed in the book, that when I would put it down to go to work, I was surprised to see people in the streets.

I'm also a big Stephen King fan. I love almost all his books except maybe Dreamcatcher and From a Buick 8, which I found to be rather disappointing My favourites have to be the ones in the Dark Tower series. I have read them all so many times! Other than those I really loved The Stand, IT and Eyes of the Dragon.

I really liked The Stand, but as other have mentioned, I found the ending to be a bit "blah." I enjoyed Black House, but I can't make my way through The Talisman to save me. Salem's Lot scared me so much more as a book than as a movie, it still gives me the chills.

I´ve only read three Stephen King books so far and I liked them all a lot. Those books were "Pet Semetary" (my favourite of the three), "IT" and "The Green Mile". I´ll definitely read some more of his books asap.

The Body--not traditional King fare. Next to that, probably The Stand or The Dead Zone.
The scariest, I thought, was Salem's Lot.
I like the Dark Tower series also. I stopped reading King after twenty or so pages into Gerald's Game, with the exception of the new books in this series.

Hi there. I am a huge King fan as well. I think "It" was one of my favorites. Actually, that was the first time I had ever read a book when I had already seen the movie. I didn't think I would be able to get into the book since I already knew the story. Was I wrong! I thought the book was incredible - better than the movie!

Has anyone here read "Firestarter?" I didn't care for it too much, but as it's the only Stephen King book I've ever read I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps his other works are more enjoyable. It's possible I'm simply not a King fan, but if others agree he can do better I'd love to try one of your suggestians.

I've read quite a lot of Stephen King books and though I wouldn't class myself as a big fan, I enjoyed most of them. My favourites are "Misery" and "The Dark Half". I also liked "The Eyes of the Dragon" as it's a bit different from his usual books (probably because he wrote it for his teenage daughter).

I've read a few King books, although for some reason I can't remember some of the titles! I really enjoyed "Needful Things". Haven't seen the movies coz I heard it was really badly done. "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" would have to be my favourite, and I really enjoyed "The Long Walk". It was eerie.

I just finished reading "Carrie". It was a great book, but I wouldn't say it is my favourite King-book. The next one I want to read is "Misery".

I've read so many of his books, I'm a HUGE fan. Salem's Lot is my alltime favourite, then The Stand. After that, it's a tossup. I enjoyed IT a lot, but not Insomnia so much. Skeleton Crew was cool, and also The Dead Zone. I'm currently reading Desperation, which, so far, is very very good.

Definitely The Stand, although I love most of his other books, and own many of them. Must make me a fan of his. Although he is a horror author, not all his books are that scary, but most are very eerie, which is why I like them so much.

Misty - Firestarter is a very early King book. I think most of the people here would agree that he has come a long, long way since then. Try some of the others mentioned here and get another taste of him. But keep in mind that The Stand is a very big bite.
The Talisman is my all-time favorite though. IndieQueen - imho, Dark House isn't half the story that The Talisman is. I think if you can get past the first three or four chapters you'd find some classic King in there. Remember that he co-wrote it with Peter Straub and you can definately tell when King takes over the story.
Probably my next fave would be It. I think that was the first book I ever read (or read since) that I wouldn't read at night in bed! I read Pet Semetary in bed and regretted it every night. And, of course, I went back to it each and every night!

Sometimes I love him, sometimes he writes like a bad parody of himself. I loved Insomnia a lot and I thought Misery was a masterpiece. Some of his short stories are memorable, including 'The Short Cut'. Amongst the stinkers I'd have to include 'The Tommyknockers' and 'Needful Things' (although little bits of that book were screamingly funny). 'Bag of Bones' scared me so badly that I was afraid to get up and go to the washroom on the plane I was travelling in while reading it. The manuscript for 'Dreamcatcher' I truly believe would have been better burned.

'The Stand' - unabridged version all the way. Although I did really like 'The Shining' and 'The Green Mile' too.
