Tara, thanks for reminding me. I had read Pet Sematary when I was about 11 or so, that was pretty crazy, but Bag of Bones was by far the creepiest book Stephen King has written. Part of what makes King so good is his character development. Off the charts excellent, he just knows how to make you feel like you know the characters so well, as if you've known them your whole life. Mike Noonan is one. Just about everyone in the Stand. Well, hopefully not Flagg! But the Dark Tower just rules all. No pun intended. The number 23? Pffft. It's ALL 19. I used to think Lord of the Rings was a great book (and still do, of course), but the Dark Tower just blows it out of the water. Substitute elves and goblins for guns (I'm not a gun nut in the slightest but there... it just fits; I could see myself living in that world) and doors between worlds + a whole lot more. Just love how so many books tie into each other. Not just Dark Tower related, the whole Castle Rock saga also. Nona, The Body, Cujo, The Dead Zone, Needful Things (another one I've got to read again soon), and a couple others that are just dancing out of my grasp right now...

I just finished Lisey's Story. I ploughed through the first part and found it dull, but on page 358 it got good! I know exactly which page it was even lol, how sad is that? I was more or less giving it up but decided to go a little further and I was glad I did, the ending is much better than the first half.

I think my favourite of all of his (and there are a few I haven't read) has to be 'From a Buick 8.' I like the 'sci-fi-ness' of it, and the prose was just somehow "better" than a lot of his others whilst still being trademark 'King'

From a Buick 8 was GOOD. You could accuse it of being a slow story but it MOVED. Just great story-telling. If you liked that and haven't read it yet, check out that short story The Colorado Kid, similar style.

Yeah, it's a short story part of a package of all sorts of mystery authors. You can find it no problem on amazon.
If you liked "From a Buick 8", you'll enjoy that story. Very similar style of storytelling.

I used to LOVE LOTR. My parents gave me the box set (95c apiece back then!) when I was 5 years old. Read them 20 times since then, easily.
However, the Dark Tower just smokes it.
Deep series, especially if you really consider the concept of glammer.
*SPOILERS FROM DTVII*
If you have not read yet, read NO FURTHER!!!
Well, don't say I didn't warn you!

So many people complained about the demise of the Crimson King at the end. I thought it was perfect. So many people have this sense that those in high power are omnipotent, all-powerful, etc. Not even in the slightest, one big facade. Believe me, after moving from the private sector into the government side, I have seen first-hand the power of glammer in authority. Those in authority/power are usually morons, just riding on their position they hold. Usually hugely lacking in intelligence and skill. Think about it. If they actually had any worthiness, they'd be working in the private sector making 3-4x the cash. Without the risk of being fired (you could smoke 5lbs of crack in your cubicle and not get fired, LITERALLY), their incompetence and ignorance endures until their retirement. Pettiness and ignorance of the real world rules the government; I would NEVER have become the Libertarian that I am without having worked for the gov't. There is a massive amount of contempt in this post but that is due to personal experience.
As an aside, if you ever want to make BOATLOADS of cash, become a government vendor. Most of the people in gov't procurement have about as much an idea of actual cost as someone from inland Papua New Guinea on The Price is Right.
Pardon the venom in this post but everything I said is 100% truth.

I don't own all of them, haven't read all of them, but my favorites are all the Dark Tower books, The Green Mile, The Girl Who Love Tom Gordon, 'Salem's Lot, and probably The Stand.

I don't really have favourites - I love them all.
"It" ranks up there for me, as does "The Stand" (of which I have only just bought the uncut version), and I love "The Shining".
"Insomnia" made me cry - I fell in love with Ralph Roberts, and both Thad Beaumont and Norris Ridgewick are characters I enjoy. "Needful Things" I loved too, along with "The Green Mile".
I must confess to not really understanding "The Regulators", but that may have something to do with my studying for my Intensive Care exams the same week I read the book - must give it another go, I suppose.
I actually bought "The Green Mile" in installments - I'm so proud of myself for that.
I re-read my Stephen Kings over and over again. I've bought new ones when the old ones have fallen apart. I read "Cycle of the Werewolf" for the first time whilst sitting on the loo with a particularly bad bought of diarrhoea brought on by a dodgy prawn.
I must confess to having never read one of the Dark Tower series - this will change soon, though, as I am receiving them all for my birthday this year. For once, I can't wait to get older.....!

Without doubt it has to be the Dark Tower Series. The World the Gunslinger lives in is amazingly enchanting, especially the olden times, which seem almost medieval. The fact he managed to tie many of his other books into them is quite astounding, even bringing in other writers works (J.K Rowling's Harry Potter series for instance - He has provided blurbs for some of her books, btw)
It is a pity that the series had to end, but it was a well told one and leaves the rest of Roland's adventures up to the readers' imaginations, which, to be honest, is the best way.
I also thought The Green Mile books were brilliant, as was The Shining, still scary to this day!
