My favorites are The Stand, The Talisman, Insomnia, Needful Things, Desperation, Rose Madder, and the short story collections are good too. Everything's Eventual and Nightmares & Dreamscapes are really really good. Did you hear about The Talisman coming out as a TV mini series in 2008? Probably won't be very good like most of the others, but I still want to see it.

I actually bought "The Green Mile" in installments - I'm so proud of myself for that.

I read them the same way - going to the local bookstore each month and buying the next one the day it came out. Really fun way to read them. For some odd reason, I still haven't seen the movie. One of these days...

With the books you have read, you'll enjoy The Dark Tower. The first one, The Gunslinger, is a bit of a bear to read - just grind through it. It gets MUCH better! INSANELY better!

My favorite piece of his work ,is a short story(I think its from four past midnight)called "Rita Hayworth and the shawshank redemption"witch as you all know went on to become a tremendous movie.
For me ,his best novel to date is "Firestarter"which is often overlooked. His best compalation of short stories is "Skeleton Crew"(try the first story "The mist"its simply brilliant and could have been streched to a novel).

Has to be Misery for me, though I love all that I've read from him.

The Stand of course and It.

I really liked The Langoliers. Very creepy... I keep imagining myself in their situation.
IT was excellent - at one time I watched the movie remake, and I have to admit it was well done. Many books that are remade into movies are really well done... but some are ridiculously bad. Like "Bridge to Terabithia"... just laughable. Didn't mean to stray off subject

Im not sure if its my favorite but Salem's Lot. I read it when I was 15 yrs old and the scariest and weirdest thing happened that night. My parents were seperated and my mother was out with her friends on a Saturday night and I was in the apt by myself. I read that book in one night. Scared out of my wits left all the lights on in the whole apt and left my closet door open so I could see in it. Well I finally fell asleep. The next morning I got up and my mother asked me to come in the kitchen. I said whats up and she was furious! She said Christine Paula! Did you let a cat in this apt last night?" I swear I must have turned white as a sheet, I know I was shaking and my mother immediately was concerned and said whats wrong? I said "NO MOM I SWEAR I DIDN'T !, and I started crying. She said when she came home she went in her room and there was a cat under her bed and it ran into the living room and she opened the door and let it out in the hallway and then let it outside! I was so shaken she believed me. It was winter no windows open, only one door like I said it was an apt! Needless to say I threw the book away and it was quite awhile before I picked up another scary book! True story still gives me the chills now and I'm 44 lol!

I've certainly read my fair share of King books. I don't think I could really pick a number one favorite though. Top three are Bag of Bones, Misery and Salem's Lot. Two others that I really like and don't hear many people mention are Desperation and The Regulators, which he wrote as Richard Bachman.

My favorite is "The Body" - great story, really good movie came from it "Stand By Me", I also love "IT" and "The Stand". However, the only one that EVER gave me nightmares was "Rose Madder" I woke up while running thru the house trying to shut all windows because Norman was coming to get me. It took me a few seconds to realize that my husband's name was Cliff. Sad, I know.

I would have to say the 'Dark Tower' series is my favorit. The 7 books overall continue to get better, although my probable farvorits are #4 Wizard and Glass and #7 Gunslinger.

The Stand is pretty good too.

Now up to number 5. These have got to be my favourite books, Stephen King and overall. They would come into a pretty close tie for overall though, there are so many excellent fantasy books that I have read and loved just as much.

Definately the Stand is my favourite of his, but there are so many, The Green Mile, misery, Rose Madder, The girl who loved Tom Gordon, the long walk, the langoliers, just to name a few more. I could never really get into the dark tower series.

"Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption", "The Stand", and "Hearts in Atlantis". If you haven't read his non-fiction book, "On Writing", do so - it's fascinating and gives you a real insight into his creative process.

I would have to go with IT. That was a great book. I also was intrigued by Gerald's Game. Which was a pretty morbid book. But for some strange reason that book stands out to me. I hope I'm not the only one!

OK. I finished the Dark Tower series. Without a doubt it is my favourite series ever, Stephen King or otherwise.
The ending was a little unexpected, but non-dramatic, and I didn't love it, but I don't think it could've ended any other way.

I also should add to my list of Stephen King favourites, The Shining. It has been the only SK book apart from 'Salems Lot, which has really scared me.

I'm 40 now, but when I was 15 I read 'The Shining'.It was then and still is THE most scary book I have ever read!
My parents were renovating their entire house at the time and we only had 1 working plug which we used for the tv and the lamp. They had gone to bed but I sat up in the lounge(with the lamp)to finish off The Shining.I finished that last page, closed the book and looked around me. I was sitting in a pool of light with deeeeep darkness crowding in on me(2.30am approx). I had to step out of that safe pool of light and into the darkness! Then cross the lounge, walk down the hall, turn into my bedroom, cross that room and get into bed.All in DARKNESS! I couldn't do it.No Way!
So I threw back my head and screamed like a banshee!
My poor dad came flying down the hall, torch light bouncing all over the walls, expecting to find me being murdered.I was safe!

Until I read 'It'.
But that's another story:-)

The Body and The Long Walk are my top 2.

After that, I also particularly liked The Stand, Salem's Lot, and The Gunslinger.

Nice, lioness! Glad you enjoyed the Dark Tower so much. Sounds like you stormed right through it too. There's a lot of pages in those 7 books but it really hooks you in, doesn't it?

Yes, it does.
I've always stormed through big books anyway, the plot hooks me so I try to read it as much as humanly possible.

Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption and The Shining for me... but i have enjoyed most - Carrie was the only one i really didn't like.
I read The Shining one weekend when i was home on my own.. nearest neighbour about 7 km away... frightened myself into near hysterics, and finally got in the car and drove into the nearest town 35 km away !
