ECDL is a great introduction to MS Windows and the MS package but it stops short of actually teaching what the packages can really do -
Example - do you really highlight a selection and then click on the toolbar or right click for - copy and do the same to paste it where you want it.
or highlight a selection by "shift right (up, left or down) and then Control key c (to copy) and Control v (to paste it where you want it) or Control x to delete it. (All of which are one action as against click select click the mouse)
The ECDL is a good course to teach the basics unfortunately it doesn't go on to teach the short cuts and better ways of doing things and the teachers are constrained to teach the methods which will get the pupils through the exam.
I am a teacher (very basic level - beginners!) and it is amazing - the number of people who think they cannot use a computer if there isn't a mouse attached - no-one has ever pointed out the little arrow keys to move the cursor.(I dread to think what would happen if they accidentally switched off the Number Lock - most of them haven't a clue what that is!).
And by the way - Pressing F1 (help) does not bring a tutor to your side!
