Ok, a weird question!

I have a real tv. Let me say that first off, so you don't think I'm totally out of date!

But, right now, I'm also using a little, portable tv at times. You do plug it in, but it's a teeny, tiny thing - the screen is 5 inches!

In order to get half-way good reception, I'm finding that I have to hold onto the antennae. If I let go, it gets all fuzzy.

Why does my physical contact on it bring the picture (and sound) in more clearly? What magic properties does my hand have that's making it do this?

I gotta know!

I always get that with my radio! I go over to adjust the antennae, think I've adjusted it right, but as I walk away the signal gets all fuzzy again. Grr.

I don't know why it happens, but I've always assumed that the human body functions as an antennae. So by touching the real antennae you're transmitting the signal you received to the radio/tv. Don't know if this holds any truth to it though...

That's about it really. Your body does act as an aerial (antenna). It's not a very efficient one but neither are the small aerials that come with the TV or radio. Anything that adds mass to them, like lengths of wire or bodies, can improve the signal.

It helps if you stick your arms in the air to simulate the shape of an aerial and slowly rotate yourself until the best picture is obtained.

...Just joking Actually, this doesn't make any difference but everyone gets a good laugh watching you try it!
