We went to see The Hollies last night. Well, strictly speaking it isn't entirely The Hollies anymore. There are only two of the original members left. These are lead guitarist Tony Hicks and drummer Bobby Elliott. The 42 years that The Hollies have been rocking and rolling have seen some changes.

The bass guitarist is Ray Stiles from the group 'Mud' (remember Tiger Feet?). Vocalist Allan Clarke retired 5 years ago and has been replaced by Carl Wayne formerly of 'The Move'. The Move had hits with: 'I Can Hear The Grass Grow / Flowers in The Rain / Fire Brigade / Blackberry Way (these songs have been added the The Hollies' repertoire). Alan Coates plays primarily rhythm guitar but is also clever on the fiddly bits. He has a very good voice too, as indeed they all have. Ian Parker plays keyboard ...a classically trained musician no less!

We last saw The Hollies about 14 years ago when Allan Clarke was still in the line up. Tony Hicks doesn't seem to have changed a bit! The show was as good then as it is now. There are some really good visual effects around these days that enhance the entertainment. Considering the show was in a not very big hall, they created a good atmosphere with them.

We go to see a fair number of sixties artistes. A standing ovation is the norm at the end of the shows. With The Hollies though, it just went on and on.

We had a really good night out!

*EDIT* Misspelt Allan Clarkes name ...sorry Allan.
