This is not an original satguru idea, as Friends Reunited (where I discovered what a couple of hundred friends from schooldays are doing now, and caught up with many) have already done it- I sent in a story about emailing someone with the name (including middle name) of my first girlfriend from Blackheath only to find that even though her father had also been in the navy, there were two of them and she was the other one. It didn't make the book, but I bought it anyway, and it is fascinating.
So, having seen the formula in action, and successfully, I realised the 5-year history of funtrivia comings and goings, high and low spots, characters and events, would not only keep me glued to the pages, but also possibly writing some of them. My knowledge is fairly recent, though with the benefit of the archive site I've filled a few gaps on the site that were lost for various reasons, and of course, gossipped in great depth about goings on past and present, which made it very clear we have all the elements of a great soap opera, and it's all real!
The fact that not only is FT still up and running, but smoothly and successfully, means we can look back even on past disputes and see that it didn't even leave a scratch in the long term, that shows the strength and resilience that if FT gets a knock or scratch, you can watch it self-heal and return to normal.
Whether or not a book is an idea that has legs, would you like to read one, and what would you like to see in it?
I'd put in: Member profiles, with classic quotes for some. Classic threads we all know and love. 'Behind the scenes' some of the less known stories that have occured but would make fascinating reading, like romances, Member's habits (borrowed from big brother) where certain habits and characteristics are selected from repeated posts where, for instance, the same expression is used over and over again. FT stories- ongoing themes that started, rose up, and were resolved. Flak- we all have our own views on what that means to us.
Obviously, having our email addresses, all material would be with our consent before being included, and with almost half a million members I think the potential audience would be quite adequate.
