I'm not sure if my question is going to make sense, but it's something that I've wondered about for a long time and thought I'd finally ask!

Let's say I create a document in Word called ABC.doc. I save it to my Desktop so it'll be handy.

I want to send it to my friend, so I attach it to my email to her.

OOPS! I left something off the document that should have been there! I'd better go back into the ABC.doc and make the correction, so the information will be correct.

When my friend opens the document, will she see the original version or the changed version?

~~~~~~~~
Ok, slightly different scenario.
I create the document. Save it. Attach it. All the same as the above.
Golly gee, my Desktop's getting full! I'm going to go ahead and delete some files from my computer to clean things up a bit.
My friend opens my attachment. Will she see it? It's gone from my computer, but it's been attached to the email I sent her. Is it still viewable for her?
Just wonderin'!
The friend would only be able to see the original version. Subsequent changes made to ABC.doc at your end will not be seen by the recipient. You would need to send the whole revised to document as another e-mail attachment.
Once ABC.doc has been sent, it can be deleted or moved. This will have no effect on your friends copy of it. She would still be able to see it.
I guess the reason I'm confused by it is that there's a path that shows up when I attach something. It looks like they're able to get in because of the way I've saved the file.
Perhaps, in my example, I should have said that I saved it to c:/linda/documents/myfriend/abc.doc. So, even though that's what shows up in the attachment, they're just getting a copy of it and not able to get it because of the path that the file took? (Does that makes sense?!)
Ok, what about this...in what format does the file show up? Does it show up just as it looks on my screen? Like with all the green underlinings for anything Word thinks is incorrect grammar and red underlinings for anything it thinks is a misspelling? Does it show up, to my friend, in the "draft" form that it appears on my screen, or does it look more "finished"?
It will only be a copy that is being sent but I'm just trying to get a picture of what you are seeing. when you have attached a file, where it says Attach: you don't see abc.doc written into the box with the file size next to it? What you see is c:/linda/documents/myfriend/abc.doc. Is that what you mean?
What email program do you use?
As regards what your friend sees: Providing she is viewing the document with the same Word Processor as you (i.e. Microsoft Word) she will see it just as you see it. This does depend a bit on which mode she opts to look at the document though (outline view, normal view etc). Most would choose normal view I'd think. Whichever one is chosen, all spelling and grammar underlines would show on her copy too.
