Just looking for a list of songs that have music playing & a story is told throughout the song. For example, "Teddy Bear" Red Sovine, "Silent Night 911 (I Was There)". There's one I can't think of, I think it was a soldier's story or something to that effect, perhaps a religious one...?
Thanks!

You may be thinking of "Deck of Cards" by Wink Martindale. The lyrics are easy to find on the web, but I can't find a playable audio file.

The record came out in 1959, but the story is much older. My father told it to me when I was a kid: I think he learned it in World War One.

How about Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen by Baz Lurman?

My favorite spoken tune is "What's He Building" from Tom Waits off the Mule Variations cd. Very creepy song, just love it to death.

"Late Lament" by the Moody Blues, the spoken ending to the full length version of "Knights In White Satin". Still makes me laugh when I hear the "breathe deep the gathering gloom..." verse.

The Blue Hawaiians took the old surf instrumental classic, "Baja", and added in some fine spoken lyrics. More music than words, I suppose.

And let's not forget Prokofiev's 'Peter and the Wolf', music by Tchaikovsky I think. Not your average 3.05 song, but it fills the criteria

There's a very excellent narrative by David Bowie kicking around that shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Could also add The Referees Alphabet by Half Man Half Biscuit and Your Most Valuable Possession by the Ben Folds Five (apparently an answerphone message Folds' father left on his machine set to music...)

How about this one (this'll be in your mind the rest of the day - bwaaahaaahaaa! ):

Remember when you ran away
And I got on my knees
And begged you not to leave
Because I'd go berserk?
Well. . .

You left me anyhow
And then the days got worse and worse
And now you see I've gone
Completely out of my mind
And. . .

They're coming to take me away, HA HA
They're coming to take me away, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those nice, young men
In their clean, white coats
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

You thought it was a joke
And so you laughed
You laughed when I had said
That losing you would make me flip my lid
Right. . .

You know you laughed, I heard you laugh
You laughed, you laughed and laughed
And then you left
But now you know I'm utterly mad!
And. . .

They're coming to take me away, HA HA
They're coming to take me away, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
To the happy home
With trees and flowers and chirping birds
And basket weavers who sit and smile
And twiddle their thumbs and toes
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

I cooked your food
I cleaned your house
And this is how you pay me back
For all my kind, unselfish loving deeds?!!
Hah. . .

Well you just wait
They'll find you yet
And when they do they'll
Put you in the ASPCA, you mangy mutt!
And. . .

They're coming to take me away, HA HA
They're coming to take me away, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those nice, young men
In their clean, white coats
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

To the happy home
With trees and flowers and chirping birds
And basket weavers who sit and smile
And twiddle their thumbs and toes
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those nice, young men
In their clean, white coats
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

Oh, another one can be "American Pie", by Don McLean. That's a very long song with quite a story.
