I started playing trumpet in 7th grade (1972) and have been playing ever since. I am starting my 23rd year as a band director, currently teaching middle school, although I've taught at every level. I've learned to play all of the band and orchestra instruments, enough to demonstrate proper tone production, etc. to students. My trumpet playing is not so good these days, as I focus more on teaching than on playing, but in my past lives I've played in everything from chamber orchestras to big bands.

I have played the piano for about 13 years, and now I teach it to young beginners (lots of fun!). I have been singing in choirs for about 10 years, Played the viola for about six months, and I sort of know about 4 chords on a guitar (that's my dad's department). It's great to see there are so many musicians here!

I have lessons on how to play two very useful musical instruments...
-The keyboard. I recently got referred to a Youth Band in need of a keyboardist, but I'm not sure about taking up the offer, since I've played the keyboard for just a few years. My teacher suggested I skip straight to Grade 3 or 4 shortly after starting, since - strangly- I seem to have very quickly made up for lost time! And I'm now turning my attention to the piano...broader horizons...?
-And my voice. Singing lessons really are extremely useful, especially if you like performing arts. For me, the most exciting form of performing is musical theatre, and if I hadn't started singing lessons when I did, I don't think I'd have been able to become a part of the great group of people in the amateur theatre company my teacher helped me rpepare an auditon piece for!

I play acoustic guitar though I can't call myself an expert. I taught myself through the use of guitar books and internet tabulation sites and other guitar information sites. I am a fan of stringed instruments and guitar and violin were the first instruments I ever wanted to play, since I was 6 years old.
I have been playing acoustic for about 3 years now. Although, electric guitar has cool effects I don't really enjoy the distortion side of it which tends to give me more of a headache than anything else. Acoustic guitar is great!

I play the French Horn, and the E Flat Tenor Horn though neither as well as I would like to. I have played since 1974 (heavens above, that's a long time)!!!

I play some harmonica, mostly just blues in 2nd position. I'd like to learn more, though - I just lack the dedication;)
