So, I was in London last week.

stepped into a pub to have some beer
the Chelsea vs. Arsenal game was on
and it was quite cool watching it with everyone there
they just went bonkers with every goal
and every miss and save

the two goals scored in the 1-1 tie were amazing
one was a bender and the other was a header off of a perfect serve

if football was this exciting in the states
I'd watch a lot more.

Sorry to be a pain, but this sounds like the Arsenal v Manchester United game (myself being a Man United supporter)
Glad a yank likes our national game though!

SG, I think it refers to Chelsea v Arsenal in the Champions League. And he's right, it was a great match.

yup...a Champions League match, Wednesday night March 24
apparently Chelsea hasn't beaten Arsenal in like 16 years
at least that's what someone in the bar said.
not sure if that is true or not

yeah, that first goal was ridiculous
the guy was like 30 yards out and just hooked this rocket of a shot
into the top right corner of the goal

and the other one was nuts, too
guy dribbling up the left wing
and the sends a cross into the box
where his teammate gets a head on it and puts it into
the left side of the net just barely clearing the goal post

don't you guys call it service when there is a perfect pass?
and how else to you describe a ball that hooks that frickin' much
it's a bender...of course that is also me after drinking too much
but whatever.

Well Chelsea have not beaten Arsenal in the League since 1995 making a total of 17 League games without winning. Also add since 1995 Chelsea have failed to beat Arsenal in five FA Cup ties it reads no wins in 22. However, Chelsea had beaten Arsenal in a League cup tie, and yes that was 17 matches ago now.

The first goal by Chelsea was a simple one in many ways and that type of goal is often scored, to best summise id say Gudjohnssen hooked it in from a wide angle into an empty goal.

The second goal by Arsenal was a simple left wing cross, which as you quite rightly state was headed into the goal by Pires.

Again this type of goal is pretty common.

Im pleased however that you enjoyed the game and i hope you getthe chance to see the second match between the two next Tuesday. It should be a great game and im sure a special goal will decide it.

I call it football cause that is what it is
a game played with the feet and a ball

we need to change the american gridiron football name
I mean...feet are almost never used in this game!
I will call it...american girdiron rugby!
since hands are allowed in rugby.

I don't understand why football wasn't brought over to the states.

that first goal by Chelsea.
I just don't see the goalie screwing up like that very often.
the angle the scorer had was pretty bad
and he still snuck it in.

americans suck at football and I just don't see very many pretty passes
that end up with a forward heading it home
probably why I was so excited.
besides the atmosphere is crazy great!

Well you need to watch Newcastle play...they have a forward called Alan Shearer, now that guy can head a ball into a goal with clinical ease....

I wished I could go to UK one day - I haven't been there before. English football isn't as popular as American football in the States. I would love to watch a football match in Highbury, Old Trafford or Anfield, cheering for the players who score goals while munching on peanuts and crackers for 90 minutes.

Peanuts and crackers..i love the stereotype

which i presume you mean as something us Brits do lol

I shall be at Villa Park on Saturday watching my beloved Arsenal beat Silverginger's beloved Salfordian United.

Thing is sometimes i take for granted the wonderful game, and getting to a game is no problem for me...however, should any of you guys or gals in the States ever fancy a trip to Blighty...let me know...i can always get a ticket for any of Uncle Sam's kids.....

The offer is there with enough notice given....coz tickets are hard to get...very.

Anyway off the point a bit there sorry folks.

If you can try to catch some English football during the next 6 to 7 weeks..the season is reaching its climax...and boy its been fun...so far

More like a white hot steak & kidney pie and an equally steaming mug of bovril ekaterina. Both of which will seriously damage the interior of your mouth!! (not to mention the obligatory visit to A&E after the match to have your stomach pumped! )

Elland Road? Aren't they tearing that down to put up a DIY Superstore??

oh yea, it's great stuff! .. staying up till 4am (now 2am) to watch them lose, and lose, and then lose again.
How'd Viduka miss that sitter at St Andrew's?
They'd 've gone 2-0 up, and it would've been a different ball game.

=/=/=

>> Aren't they tearing that down to put up a DIY Superstore??

They can't - prospective buyers want vacant possession .. and they haven't sold the tea lady!

It's OK gt, the tea lady is going to 'boro on free at the end of the season.
Even Smithy has said he will leave if we get relegated!
Still, at least The Gooners can't spank us next season, unless we get them in the cup again.

I'm reserving judgement as to how disappointed I am. Obviously it was a depressing game to watch, but if we win the league and get at least to the Champions' League semi, I will think of this as a great season (the FA Cup was a nice consolation for not winning the league last season, but still only a consolation). If, on the other hand, Saturday leads to a loss of form and confidence in the 50 or so games we have to play in the next week, that would truly be a disaster.

Id have to agree to an extent.

I do feel Arsenal have been dealt a bad hand in the next few days

Chelsea away
United home
United semi

now we have

Chelsea
Liverpool
Newcastle all by Easter Sunday dinner time......

Chelsea are the ones smiling.....

and what of United throwing the game at home to chelsea to help them win the league? has it occured to you that might be the case...as United fight for the Holy Grail against Millwall......was it not that important enought o even enter four years ago

A question for our English friends...

There seems to be a plethora of trophies on offer- FA Cup, UEFA, Champions Trophy, League cup(?), European Cup...

Which ones are the most 'prestigious', and which ones are the 'Mickey Mouse' awards?
