Ooh. You just didn’t get it prepared right. Chicken feet taste good.

They are just too bony to be very enjoyable for me. I also don’t like its texture, but all the feet I’ve had prepared for me taste good.

I’m not sure what the oddest thing I’ve eaten is. Just about anything a person eats will constitute as strange by someone else.

Probably hot dogs!! But without knowing what it actually was.
Seriously, Honey ants, kangaroo tail soup, and witchidee grubs (bleh).

It's a relatively common snack in some western American states: Rocky Mountain Oysters.
In the springtime, during branding season, when bull calves are castrated their testes are saved (everything is used except the "moo"). Local restaurants slice them lengthwise and dip them in batter and deep fat fry them. They are served with a hot sauce dip.
Every easterner that visits out here gets the initiation meal after a cold beer or three.

We have them here, too, but I've never tried them. I'm not much on organ meats. There is a German dish called "Saure Nieren" which is kidneys cooked in a vinegar gravy which is actually pretty good, except for the kidneys! Probably the most unusual thing I have eaten is wild antelope meat. And my mother had a wide variety of end-of-the-month German dishes which I have never seen anywhere else, mainly ways to make a couple of cups of flour and two eggs look like supper.

When I was on holiday in Polynesia, I visited a local tribe and tasted something they described as "long pig".

I don't know what it was, but it was quite tasty, and the tribe were very keen for us to stay for more. Sadly we had to leave that night, and the tribe gave us a wonderful send-off, running after us shouting their farewells for a good five miles.

I ate part of a fried rat in Macau in 1998. I`ve also eaten a few Big Macs.

The best strangest food I've eaten was Elk steak. If you ever have the opportunity, don't pass it by. Of course, unless you're vegetarian or of some other restricted predisposition.

Here in a rural state, the thought of game isn't strange at all. I've eaten plenty of elk, deer, goose, pheasant, duck, etc. It never actually occured to me that someone else might consider it a "strange" food. I've never tried Rocky Mountain Oysters myself, but have had the opportunity. I'm not big on organ meats either, especially not that organ... But I have a friend who regularly attends the "Testicle Festival", where appearantly many animals are represented, not just beef. I suppose the strangest thing I've evern voluntarily eaten was Bison burgers. But then again, many people probably don't think eating Bison is that strange. I guess I don't, really, either, so you can see I'm not that adventurous when it comes to food.

Buffalo burgers are quite common where I am. Leaner than regular beef, so it's on a lot of menus.

I'm finding the fact that Big Macs are "strange" to some interesting! They're just so common here that I never thought about some finding them odd!

I've brought up a couple of threads in The Commons that relate to foods. Thought they might be fun to have going at the same time as this thread.

My daughter served me ostrich in December, it was rather similar to beef but doesn't have the cholesterol.

Is Ostrich very oily, Sue? I've tasted Emu which is really oily - wonder if they are similar?

I prefer fillet steak which is what it was supposed to be similar too, oily, I really don't remember.

At the time I didn't think them strange but with todays thinking!

Pigs Trotters, sheeps heart and brains, tripe and onions and the full fry up of liver, kidneys and any other offal on offer. Saturday lunchtime treats in the 1950's.
Would I eat the now - well yes I would! Along with the winkles (extracted from the shell with a pin!), whelks, crabs claws, cockles and mussels.
Would I eat a Big Mac - not unless I was still hungry after eating the carton!

I've tried camel meat. It was quite strong in flavour but nice curried!

I'm not too much of a risk taker when it comes to food. I've eaten ostrich, but only because my parents told me it was a veggie burger when I was little. I was ready to kill them. I knew that was no veggie burger. Obviously, I did not like it. The variety I had was very spicey. My parents informed me that ostrich meat was a new trend and I would see ostrich farms popping up all over the place and it would replace beef. This was a good ten years ago and it hasn't happened yet.

I've also eaten octupus. This was super fried and I mostly just sort of ate the fried part around the meat. This was at some fancy restaurant in New York City my parents, again, forced me into trying when I was little. They failed to inform me I was eating octupus until I tried a piece. The octupus was better than the ostrich, that's for sure.

I do like Calamari, so I guess that isn't too far a stretch from octupus.

Outside the meat industry, my friend and I used to have contests of who could eat the most grass. My mother promptly put an end to this when she found out. We figured if cows could eat it, why not us? Oh, the ignorance of youth!

You jogged my memory, loveoflearning! I used to eat puppy chow with my dog. It was dry, brown and shaped like wide egg noodles. It had all the vitamins and minerals for healthy, growing puppies. Since I was a growing boy it must have been good for me, too. Arf.

I've had poi - it was disgusting.

As an adult, I've hade pate - and it was pretty good. Refused to eat the carpaccio (sp?) which was a thinly-cut piece of raw meat.

Down here right now, there was just a food fair thing where the main ingrediant was those cicadas (for those who don't know - think of a big bug that's like a grasshopper/cockroach).

I had frogs legs on a cruise once. It really did taste like chicken. Not much meat on them though.

I have tried fried Gator Tail, and Shark steak. Blargh to both.

Also had a friend who loved sushi. He talked me into trying a piece (you know... don't knock it till you've tried it). I tried a piece of eel, I think. Very, very blargh.

I had ostrich in Amsterdam. To me that was weird food, but it tasted really nice.
I'd love to try frog's legs.

I love shark, we call it flake! Depends on how you cook it I suppose. I also love sushi, my son's fiancee is Taiwanese and she makes the best sushi! Eel, I love smoked eel, we used to catch them in the local river and bung them on the bbq (in the coals). I also love tartare, a dutch type of raw spicy meat which I haven't had in years!

Witchety grubs are okay, if you like that sort of thing; kangaroo is very low in fat; emu too; I've tried snake, take it or leave it!
