ok, I always respond to each correction notice I receive. I received one yesterday that has me stumped on how to respond. It is on my Soaps, In Other Words quiz. The subject line of the note was "2" and the content was "I answered that right." How am I supposed to respond to this??

I've had a few like that myself. I normally respond back asking for a bit more information. Try to be as polite as possible and explain that you can't make a change if you don't know what to fix. That usually works.

Hope this helps.

If it's really not helpful, I'd say 'thanks for your comments' and leave it at that.
I know it is annoying for you, but that way, you clear the remark from the system and you've done your part.

If you'd like, put the reason down to the staff as 'Sorry, cannot understand the comment'

Thanks for the advice. I'll ask for more information. If the player has a legitimate reason for sending me a notice, I DO want to fix it.

I always respond to correction notices, and other notices, only ever had one unpleasant one....and that was soon dealt with!

I get corrections all the time, some valid some not. I always answer and follow up as best I can. I'm usually amazed that someone paid enough attention and took the time to write! There is one who corrects me that just makes my blood boil. It's always about spelling (and I think the spelling of things in this person's country is not the same as it is in mine). But we hash it out and my happy dictionary gets a needed dusting. What surprises me, sometimes, is how many get all fired up by stuff in the "interesting info" part. The quiz has been taken and answered by the time you get there (not my fault if you answered wrong!) but, again, it's all a matter of fine tuning the whole thing so I try to. I've only ever had one "mean" corrector. His or her facts were wrong, his or her attitude about a few minutes spent playing a trivia quiz stunk, etc.

I have generally had good experiences with dealing with correction notices. I have got a few that were so blatantly wrong though! In this case, I always make sure to explain to the person and Quizzyland why the person is wrong. Funny, when I do this, nobody ever apologizes for being incorrect!

My "unpleasant correction notice", not from a editor I hasten to add, concerned the spelling of a word in the title of my quiz. The word is spelt differently in England and America! But the editors soon dealt with the sender!

Whew, that's good! Some people just don't take that into account!

Was this person from the US? If they were, I find this odd because, from my experience, we're usually pretty good at detecting when something is spelled differently in England. I can almost always identify an English spelling! This silly person should have just left it alone!

I've gotten a lot of authors who try to be smart and reply to my rejection notices with "You should check your own spelling. It's not spelled capitaliSation, it's capitaliZation."

And every so often I see a correction notice telling someone that colour doesn't contain a U.

That was exactly my problem, my quiz was called "The COLOURS (spelt the English way) of Harry Potter" and this "person" sent me a correction notice saying I've spelt COLOUR wrong it should be COLOR and told me how "dumb" I was in no uncertain terms!

Yeah, well, the Americans won the war so they can spell words however they want.

They said more....but I'm too polite to say on here! Can't remember the exact words now, a few months ago, but not very complimentary!

Just a note - make sur eyou ALWAYS let an editor or administrator know when you receive rude notices. This way we can take appropriate action/track behaviour. Thanks!

Once I had a correction note problem like this. It was a correction note for one of my quizzes in the Sports category.

I've been very lucky as far as correction notes go. Off-hand I can't remember any rude ones. I do get annoyed though, I get a lot of correction notes on my quiz on The Cosby Show. On one question I ask to name ONE of Sondra's children, and in the hint box it says "one word." People don't pay attention when they read the question and put the names of both children and get it wrong and send me a correction note. I myself feel that this is a pretty easy question (that's why I made it FITB in the first place) and I'm going to leave it a FITB until an editor tells me I HAVE to change it.

Anyway, I asked the person that sent me the note that caused me to start this thread to give me more information. I asked what answer they put, how they phrased it, etc. and I haven't received a response.

I am not a TV editor, but I do want to point out that this question does violate one of the basic rules of FITBs- they shouldn't have more than one correct answer.

Aaargh! I have to vent just a wee little bit. In the last two days I've received two correction notices on two separate quizzes both of which were in error. On both of the correction notices, had the quiz taker read the question thoroughly they would have gone "Oh, well that makes sense." I responded back to the first correction notice and tried to advise them very politely of this information. At least that correction notice was polite. This morning when I logged on it was to see "Change your question!!!!" My knee jerk reflex is to reply "Change your attitude," but won't. I just wish the correction notices had a filter or if one person has been sending out correction notices willy-nilly and there is no true correction or something. I don't mind making corrections at all, especially if they are legitimate. Unfortunately, a good portion of them are not. Oh well, what's a gal to do?

Just a comment on Gats' "What surprises me, sometimes, is how many get all fired up by stuff in the "interesting info" part."

I'm guilty of this, in fact probably 90% of the corrections I send out have been on interesting info. The way I see it, the interesting info is AT LEAST as important to funtrivia as the questions themselves, and should ideally be treated with equal seriousness.

I know that if I've made a mistake in the interesting info, I want to correct it.

What ertrum said - something wrong is still something wrong, in my opinion.

But I think gats was alluding to people who complain about how their score was ruined when the problem was in the interesting info, not in the quesiton itself.

sebastiancat - one thing you can be sure of is that the editors are aware of these people. If they have sent multiple invalid corrections to you, chances are pretty good that they've sent them to other authors in the category too. You of course have a responsibility to correct errors in your quiz, but the best response to invalid correctors with a less than sterling atitude is no response at all. We see all corrections, and will jump on rude ones.
