Here's a weird story. At least they are not Frisbees!! Credit to ESPN Sporting News.

Dog feels below par after eating 28 golf balls

Reuters — April 23, 2004
LONDON —Vets cut open a German Shepherd dog to find she had scoffed no fewer than 28 golf balls.

Eighteen-month old Libby had been coughing blood after weeks of fetching golf balls at the northern England course where owner Mike Wardrop works as a bar manager.

Wardrop told Reuters on Friday he hadn't realized the dog had a secret appetite for the dimpled balls she found at Didsbury Golf Club in Manchester.

"When I take her for a walk every day she is prone to finding golf balls," Wardrop said. "She can fit five in her mouth."

Libby is now recovering from the operation to remove the balls, with 30 stitches across her belly.

"I've had to buy her two footballs," said Wardrop. "She can't swallow them."

Oh my, I guess I should be very glad our dog sticks to hockey and tennis balls! It is interested in golf balls though, I'll hide them right away!

I wonder what the rule is about that. If you see the dog eat it it really isn`t a lost ball.

I think you get a free drop unless the dog passes the ball within 15 minutes.

If the dog 'deposited' the ball in the hole would it count as a hole in one?

And if anyone has actually trained a dog to perform this trick how much would they charge me for the use of their dog for 18 holes?

Not so much a case of "Libby, drop the ball!" as "Libby, pass the ball!"

I Expect the cut to remove the balls from Libby's stomach was, 'Straight down the middle'.

Ah ha! Tellywellies you`ve finally found a way to stop dogs harassing you whilst riding. A simple device that at the press of a lever releases golf balls.

Ah yes ...a golf ball launcher mounted on the cross-bar!

Just thinking ...The total weight of the golf balls Libby was carrying was getting on for three Pounds* (around 1.2Kg). You'd think a saggy belly might be noticeable with that lot. Must have sounded like a bowling alley when she ran!

*Edit (Well OK ...2˝ Pounds anyway )

A German Sheperd eating golf balls? Well, that's about par for the course.
