An Australian in America Website

Well, I just found out in America today (it still being April 26th in America) it's actually "Hug an Aussie" day

Has anyone actually heard of this before?

Can any of our American friends confirm this?

We do have some wacky holidays but not "Hug an Aussie" day. Sounds like a good idea though. I'd have to travel 8,000 miles to find one!

I don't see that holiday listed. If this were April 13, I'd blame Sue for my not knowing it.

April 29 is one to look forward to.

I find the fact that we have both April 4 and April 30 in the same month interesting, though!

Oh,if I'd only known! Apr 11 was 8 track tape day - my car has an 8 track player. I'd have jammed in my Foreigner and Dr Hook tapes, and blasted through town.

Not to be outdone, I'd like to nominate the following Australian holidays:

May 3: Swim with Box Jellyfish Day
June 16: Trim the Lawn with a Pair of Nose Hair Scissors Day
July 8: Squirt Lemon Juice in your Friends Eye Day
August 15: Kiss a Redback Spider Day
September 22: Hug a Humpback Whale Day
October 10: Stare at the Wall Day
November 37: Dig a Hole and Put a Bucket on Your Head Day
December 5: Dip Your Head in a Vat of Balsamic Vinegar Day

Might catch on? Who knows, may even score another public holiday. If the Victorians can get a day off for a horse race, there's hope yet.
