I'm having problems with my wireless keyboard. It keeps connecting and disconnecting, but as long as I look back over what I write, my sentences should make sense.

Nothing much to say right now...my forums went down...that's not fun.

I'm starting my own blog...but I haven't written much yet...

My personal highlight of today is that my other niece (they are Twins!) passed her driving test! Not only that, but first time! Her Twin sister passed her test some months ago, after several attempts. They aren't eighteen for three weeks!

Yeah Jane! Glad they are both off and driving....

Highlight for me! Getting into the full class I really needed! Yipeeee! AND dropping another one I don't have time for. Yipeeeee too!

Low for me? emmmmm....that's hard to think of (what a nice change!) Probably the fact I can't get my student ID because I don't have the information I must have. So, that means I'll have to wait to get my books until tomorrow.

I am sooooooo excited to be in school! I have homework!! (so, why am I on the computer?? hehehe) I have three classes and they are all hands on and two of them are teaching methods classes. Wow! Science and Physical education. They will focus on how and what to teach!

Hope everyone has a great day! School is here! Yipeeeeeeeee
Joy
P.S. I STILL have to send in my computer to be fixed. I've been too busy to deal with it! SOON I will get to it!

A good day today. I went to an open day of the NRA at Bisley (click the link that says, 'Next NRA Open Day 4 Sept 2004'). I had 5 shots of a 1944 Lee-Enfield service rifle, shooting at a target 300 yards away. I'd never fired anything like that before. The last thing I fired was an air rifle in my youth. I was sort of nervous about firing a .303 rifle but the instructor was good and I did surprisingly well. Only one shot went outside of the black part of the target. All the others hit well inside of it and the last bullet hit what is called the 'v-bull'. This is the very inner part of the bullseye. The instructor shouted up to his colleague to tell him that I'd hit it! Beginner's luck I suppose.

The next thing I tried was a Colt pistol, just like a cowboy gun. Black powder shooting they call it ...lots of gunsmoke. Two out of the three shots fired hit the target. Then it was on to clay-pigeon shooting. Not quite so good at that. 5 shots fired and 3 clays hit.

The day was hot and sunny. A bit too hot and sunny for standing in queues waiting for a turn really. I almost had to give up waiting at the clay pigeon shoot. Nonetheless, it was a good experience and I'm glad I did reasonably well at hitting things. I may go there again.

Can I extend that to 'week' here? Things are sometimes pretty slow 'round North London way. Well, I'll now show my true colours of major anorak material (I think I've explained what an 'anorak' means often enough for it to cross the Atlantic now ) and mention the local bus.
For an unknown reason (except I've been interested in transport and geography all my life) I always wanted my old road, where I lived from 1965 to 1993 to be on a bus route, as it was a pretty important cut-through and could have done with one. They ran the big red buses along it every few years when the main road had work done on it, but until 1986 there was no regular route, and that was on the lower part of the road, not mine. I just found a little bus stop a few houses away from my old one, with a new route (7 trips a day...) that finally went the length of the road, on the minibus that always drove the previous route as well. I went down there on Wednesday and took a photo of it as it passed my old house. There you go, pure trivia, but it's often the small things that matter.
The second high (mentioned elsewhere as well) is the fact I've 99% proved I registered here in February 2000 as I've carbon dated (OK, used the archives) an old URL I found written down and the number corresponded with the time soon after I got my computer, which makes sense. Now if I find a post under whichever other name I used (I have no recollection of one) I'll really have something to celebrate! Now, of course if I'd kept better records I'd have known this already, but who's perfect?

edited to add: I can celebrate! The first 2 lost posts have been located, and I can now say I've been here on the forums since the 17th February 2000! I am amazed!

Hey everybody!

Hows life for all of you?

You know, some things really infuriate me, such as when people use their Web-Security knowledge for bad instead of good. Somebody hacked into my site recently on behalf of someone who doesn't seem to like me. I have no idea who it is, but from now on, I vow to keep my site safe of hackers.

I didn't think the site would even have problems with people like that, but apparrently, someone else had a different idea.

Well, I'm done ranting and raving about THAT websites security problems, as it is already lost. Unrecoverable.

A few positive things going on right now, such as another new site, which hopefully will turn out OK.

Hope you all are doing all right!

The day got off to an early start. I woke to the sound of running water. This isn't usually bad news in our house. We have a water-softener. Every now and then, it flushes out or 'regenerates' as the instructions term it. It is set to do this in the middle of the night when water demand is non-existent. It's a nuisance when the process starts. It takes an hour or so and the noise always wakes me up.

I got up at 3.30 a.m cursing the thing and went to shut the bedroom door. The running water sounded a bit louder than normal, so I went into the kitchen to investigate. The floor looked a bit shiny in the available light form a nearby street-lamp. I'm fairly good at housework but not that good. Our kitchen floor never shines! I stepped forward and could hardly believe it when my foot went into about ¼ of an inch of water. I switched on the light and ...PANIC STATIONS!!

Water was literally gushing from the bottom of the cupboard where the water-softener is situated. I raced to do something about it but at 3.30 a.m it took a while for the brain to swing into gear. I couldn't remember exactly where the stop-cock is. It is somewhere behind the softener. Finding it involves feeling for it and I couldn't locate it straight away. If found it eventually and like all stopcocks, it was locked up because it doesn't get used much. I felt some relief when I eventually got it to turn. There are also a couple of taps that turn off just the water softener but I couldn't remember where those were either and I didn't have my glasses on to see into the cupboard properly. All this time, the shelf the softener stands on was acting as a waterfall. The flow of water ceased at last (Phew!).

I turned around and Mrs TW was there. She knew something was wrong from the noise of flowing water and the flow of bad words coming from me. She got me all the towels we possess and after about ¾ of an hour I had the worst of the mess mopped up. I had to keep putting the towels through the spin dryer to get enough water out to them so they could be reused for the mopping up operation.

Water had gone under the kitchen/lounge dividing wall a bit but the carpet should dry out OK (I hope). A ¼ inch high door threshold just about stopped the water getting to the hallway carpet.

I stood there and calmed down a bit. Then I noticed our neighbours light was on. We don't particularly overlook each other (unless you make the effort) but It was then that I realised I'd done the whole thing in naturist attire. I hope they didn't peer over thinking we might have had burglars or something. We don't have net curtains in the kitchen.

By the way ...I've got to face the dentist later today.

Hello all! Just stopping by in a moment between school and work. My semester has gotten off to a grand start!

1) I got into all the classes I needed even though one was full and it was luck I got it and two classes had started but I was able to add them.

2) I am getting fin aid for one more year. I assumed I wouldn't qualify but I do!

Soooooooo......

3) I am able to quit my job (after saving a bit from working full time!) and have my afternoons and evenings to study! I'm working one more week full-time and then a month at 20 hours and I'm done!

I am soooooo excited!!

tellywellies, sorry about your flood. Sounds like a real eye-opener. (sorry, bad joke!)

Hope everyone is doing well. Seems like an eternity since I've been here!

Take GREAT care ALL!
Joy

Grump, grump - what a day!

I was at my daughter's home and had to fly home today. Her fiance was still in bed so I had to get a taxi to the station. Was lucky in that the shop had a new supply of beef jerky so I bought 20 packs (we can't buy it here). Train was slightly delayed due to technical reasons but not too badly. Arrived at airport with ample time to spare, checked in at just after 10.30am only to be told that there was a technical fault, that the 'plane would be delayed from 12.10pm until 4.00pm and for some reason would divert to Liverpool (this was Manchester). OK, it happens. Then I looked at the departure board and noticed the same airline had about 4 other flights between now and 4pm, they all went on time!

At approximately 4.30pm we finally took off for Liverpool, loaded up with all but three of the passengers, waited about then two of the remaining passengers arrived, then we waited, waited, waited... they didn't want to go without the remaining passenger or else they would have to offload his luggage. One whiskey-stinking man arrives at the aircraft, giggling at having kept us waiting for an hour, he was clutching a holdall - yep, no hold baggage!

Finally arrive at our airport six hours late, I am twitching as I want to get to the shop for bread. An airport staff member was pushing a gentleman in a wheelchair who had been on my flight, then he was being called away and was going to abandon the man. I said that I would ensure that he got a taxi, the least anyone could do. The other people in the taxi queue knew that we were not together and that I was only pushing him, two taxis arrived at the same time so I asked my man which he preferred as one was a black cab and the other a saloon car, he made his choice and I started to head for the other taxi only to find that a fellow passenger had seized the opportunity to jump the queue. I yelled at him then told him to stick his taxi, I would wait for the next one.

Taxi arrives but it is too late to get home then back to the shop for bread so got the taxi to wait outside the shop for me.

Ah well.

The plus side was the beef jerky, as I said, we cannot get it here and I love it - and luck was with me as the sniffer dog wasn't at the airport so I was able to smuggle it in (and the pound of biltong!).

That was a good deed you did there Sue!

I'll confound the system here by relating a half-high for today, in between the two. As many people will know from my Big brother experience among others that I love meeting celebrities. Well today I went to my second celebrity cricket match, where last time I saw the current England captain of the time, Alex Stewart, among others. From that I was expecting any level of A-list today, and when I arrived they were having tea and I thought 'I don't recognise anyone here?'. I had to ask the programme seller, who managed to sell me a £5 programme (it was for the whole year, not that one match) just to find out who the celebrities were. Basically, none! The best we had on the team was Alan Butcher, the lesser known father of the England batsman Mark, and a current Hampshire bowler who bowled someone out very impressively. He then pointed out an ITV newsreader I barely remembered who was watching his son play, and I got his autograph. So it wasn't quite a high as there was no one there I recognised (we drove about 30 miles to go there) and it wasn't quite a low as I did meet a newsreader and see an ex-England and a county cricketer. But Alex Stewart, George Layton (the actor, who I actually knew already) and Tony Meo (the snooker player) from the last one it wasn't!

Hey satguru,

This has totally slipped my mind until just now! I remember visiting your site a while ago, but I don't remember the address. Was it kingsbury.tk? I might as well check...indeed it is!

Highs and lows...well...lets see, lows, school was lame today, I didn't learn anything, and in almost evrery class, I was either ahead in my work, or had to take notes. On the plus side, I'll be more prepared for the test coming up.

That's it!

My days are getting weird! We're getting through my friend's cancer (he hasn't lost his hair yet...and that seems to be the biggest concern at the moment. Never mind that he might freakin' die, hairless or no!!). And I learned something about myself today. I can't do this, what I'm dealing with, by myself. So I have to trust people to help me. And, you know what? I don't know how to do that. There was a good thing today. A sunbeam knocked me in the head and I heard a baby cry. So I guess all is well. Pretty good day all around.

My Aunt survived cancer recently and she was 'funny' about her hair too . . . when it started to fall out in clumps she 'bit the bullet' and had a friend (hairdresser) shave her head - I must admit some people don't have a head for no hair, but, my Aunt did!

Hope you're friend's okay . . . in my prayers . . .

Gatsby, sorry to hear both about you (elsewhere on here) and your friend. And you have a lot of support here, you can leave that to all your old and new friends at Funtrivia, and I'm sure as well from the those in the physical world as opposed to the computer one.

Nothing special myself to report while I'm here, I did find a very nice yellow housing for my mobile phone which was very cheap, but it's only sprayed on with paint (that's apparently all they do now) so how long that stays on is another story. And Jon Tickle was on TV tonight in the audience of a comedian, and it's always good to see him after being one of his many followers in last year's big brother (including seeing him in the distance at their party). And to add one for yesterday, I also saw Bernard Cribbins in the street, but until my Dad told me who it was, didn't recognise him (probably something to do with having a beard now...). Well, I did say nothing special

Hello everyone,

I return tonight after months of being away. (hmmmmm, anyone notice?) I've been so caught up in school. That's a good thing. I think! I have been teaching some lessons in my methods classes (for my education degree). It's going okay. They are getting done, so that is OKAY!!

Well, here it is 2am and I am not asleep. (some things just don't change) I'm going to go look in the chain game room.

Hope everyone is doing well.
Take great care!
