I see that the lady is definitely in. Can we hear from our Indian members? I would like to hear their views on the election of this lady.

Hi Ren!

Indian member here. Well, there was a controversy about her foreign origin. I think she won because of her allies. The Congress struck Gold in Tamil Nadu in the form of the DMK. This was because of Ms. Jayalalitha, the Tamil Nadu CM. She has become so unpopular in her stint as CM that her party did not even win at one place. There was a strike in Tamil Nadu. The government workers wanted a higher salary. So, she suspended them. Then she struck their names out of the voter's list as they would not vote for her. Gujarat was another surprise. The BJP had won there in the past three elections and now the Congress won there. Many think Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka also played a major role in the elections.
Maybe, it was destiny that she became a PM. Maybe it was destined that India will be ruled by an Italian. I don't want that. This is what Manvinder said. We discussed this in the Indian group.

Quote:

I have nothing agaisnt her foreign origin, but still I feel its a shame that the Congress Party's prime miniterial nominee has only 7-8 years of political experience. I sincerely believe that she cannot handle the country and we might soon have mid-term elections.

Well, I personally think….. Why should we have an Italian ruling over us? Haven’t we got enough of foreign rule from the British? And I think Sonia can hardly speak English. I really don't think she is good enough to be our PM.

If the grapevine is to be believed Sonia has bowed under pressure and decided not to become PM. She has proposed the name of former Finance Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for the PM's post. We shall know in a few minutes

Right now I'm watching Sonia Gandhi explain to her party's MPs the reasons why she has decided not to be PM. Its a riot like situation in the parliament.

Dr Manmohan Singh-He's not a politician but an economist. Greatly respected throughout the nation. He bailed India out of trouble during the economic crisis in 1991. He's believed to be the godfather of Indian Economic reforms. He might have trouble surviving in coalition politics though.

I suppose it very much depends on who has chooses to join him.
An economic expert is a good thing isnt it? What difference will it make that he is a Sikh? Thanks for your input, Manvinder.

MacMohan is pretty good - a guy driving down the middle of the road with his right hand out all the time (the only trouble with those following this vehicle is that a bunch of oldies sticking on top of the bumper (trunk) are sticking their hand to the left.

Well. glad that Sonia didn't become PM (for a reason not being her foreign origin or gender). She has NO experience, she is , to me, Marie Antoinette, reincarnate.
Though One must admit she's scored a great goal by not taking the PM's post- won over a lot of people.

BUT some will still NOT like her.... Moi being one of them

Unfortunately, many great minds, and really good and capable people, have not been able to survive the shark tank that politics can be.

It is Manmohan not MacMohan, ace_sodium. It is good this way, COOL. Jai Hind.

Well, I thought everyone who voted for Congress voted for Sonia, apparently not Dr. Manmohan. BJP campaigned with "Atal versus a question mark". If you believe Sonia was not the PM candidate before the result, then one can say -- India wanted anyone bu Vajpayee! Whatever...., Sonia's polital weightage has increased many folds after the whole drama.
