Bannockburn....you're right.

Pling...'Dwight' is a clue to the president who had such terrible luck with his cabinet appointees. This guy and Eisenhower had something in commmon....think 'career'.

They all were vice presidents that went on to be elected president without having assumed the office due to death or resignation of the sitting president.

WOW! You're good, doc. A little too good, if you ask me. I'm gonna have my hands full with you guys.

Question 1
Which 2 vice-presidents held that office under 2 different presidents?

Question 2
Which vice-president said that his decision to assume that role was, "the worst damn fool mistake I ever made", and, "it isn't worth a bucket of warm spit"?

Q1 Clinton and Calhoun
Q2 John Adams (and would a bucket of COLD spit have been worth more?)

Q2 Hmmm. This site lists the "warm spit" remark as being said by Garner:
www.suite101.com/article.cfm/presidents_and_first_ladies/35366

and this site by John Adams:
http://www.chesco.com/~artman/adams.html

Very strange!

Correct again, doc (you're gonna be trouble, arent ya?) US Grant had the Cabinet problems.

Pling...right again with Q1...Clinton and Calhoun (you already are a problem!)

Petaluma...you're right, it was John Nance Garner (FDR's Veep) who so delicately and succinctly compared his job to a 'buket of warm, uh, well, what he really said was 'pis'...not 'spit'. Classy guy that I am, I changed it. (you're making excellent progress towards entering the 'problemhood'!)

OK......

Q3 - Which First Lady, according to the White House staff, left something to be desired in the 'motherhood' area? They felt that her kids, "...felt they lacked maternal love, which caused them to be mixed up in their own lives and loves." One of her kids was quoted, "She has time for everyone except us."

Q4 - Conversely, which First Lady, according to the White House staff, "...displayed such warm love and devotion; more than (they) had ever seen"? When playing with her offspring, they could be heard "...laughing and kidding like classmates." And they loved playing practical jokes on each other, something the president enjoyed immensly.

I'll guess Nancy Reagan for the "cold" mother, and Teddy Roosevelt's wife (don't remember her name - was it Sara?) for the other.

Eassychess: I was thinking that the description sounded like Nancy Reagan as I typed it...but it isn't. You may be surprised at who it is...I was.

Teddy R.s wife was a good guess, but incorrect. I wasn't surpirsed by the answer, 'cause her husband's one of my favorite presidents. And I'm in the minority with my feelings.

ReanAZ...I've got good news and bad news for ya. The good news is that ya got Q3 correct; Eleanor Roosevelt.

The bad news is that Q4 wasn't 'Lemonade Lucy'...although that's one good guess. Another hint...both the President and she referred to their daughter as "Baby" well into her adulthood. Another hint...when "Baby" grew up, she married a guy whose last name was a first name.
