In medieval days, what were the narrow windows in thick castle walls called?

Good question, TJ. I know what they were used for but I didn't know they had a specific name. How about "shooting arrow at enemies and undesirables slot?"

fjohn is on target, but he just missed the bullseye. They're called arrow loops.

TexasJoe,

As your hint stated, they were called "loopholes" (or "Meurtrieres," if you're French). Source: Castles: Their Construction and History, by Sidney Toy, Dover Publications, 1985, page 111.

Cordially,

Russ
