My highest Bookworm score so far (1,588,460). I realised I wasn't going to go any further so chose one more good word to go out on. Hence the difference between the score shown at the top of the board and the score cut and pasted from from the 'Hall of Fame'.

The game is playable online here but I downloaded it. The download timed-out after a while so I ended up paying the price. The downloaded game can be played full-screen.

Hint: When a word is complete, clicking on the last letter of it is the same as pressing the 'Submit' button. You sometimes have to be careful not to do it by mistake.

Edit: The game score is saved between sessions in the download version.

Okay, it seems I have some work to do to get anywhere near your score! But I'm okay with my first attempt of 62180 and I'm now assistant librarian.

I love a good book burning

That's a brilliant score, Martin. What was your final position there? I never reached higher than Archivist, so I don't know what one can become in the higher echelons of Bookdom.

It took a good few sessions to get the score up.

When you click on the bookworm character all the tiles scramble, apart from the firetiles. The price paid is that a number of extra firetiles are generated plus all the bonus tiles lose their extra value.

Nonetheless, if you think that a firetile is not going to fit into a word by the time it reaches the bottom, a scramble is worthwhile.

I reckon if I'd scrambled the tiles and paid the price before the letter 'U' reached the bottom (you can't scramble when it has reached the bottom) something would have fitted in with it to make a word. So, maybe could have got an even higher score!

...but I think I'll give the game a rest for a while now

Edit: Sara - when 1,000,000 is reached your title is 'Bookworm', followed by Mega Bookworm then Bookworm Supreme. I don't think it changed after that ...not that I noticed anyway.

I LOVE bookworm. I started playing it on Yahoo right after it came out. My best game (A year ago?) was on the online version. I worked on for days at a time, leaving for work and coming home to play some more. I topped 2,000,000 before I lost. But, as I said, it wasn't just one session, though it was one game. I haven't got anywhere near that again. At least 500,000 away most times. What a fun game.

Great game. My highest score is 2,526,870. The longest words have been 7 letters.

This game annoys me, because I love it, but I need to have at least an hour before I can sit down and play it.

Thank you TellieWellies for reigniting an addiction! I used to have this game on my PC, had to totally reformat and it went . . . I had forgotten about it but as soon as that little worm popped up I was gone! Master Librarian - good, bad or indifferent?
