Well, it appears that those of us with yahoo! emails woke up to a nice surprise: 100MB of space in our inboxes. (I know my boyfriend is quite happy as he was at 99% of his old limit.) You can also send messages as big as 10MB.

Apparently, those who had signed up the past year or so only had 4 MB of space, and those with older accounts had 6... I found this odd as I thought everyone had 6 (unelss you were a paid member).

Speaking of paid memberships - those who paid for bigger boxes now have *2GB* of space.

However, I don't like the new interface so much... the colours are too 'soft' for my eyes (it's hard reading anything other than black-on-white or the reverse).

Fantastic news. I just checked my email before seeing this post and was so happy I was going to post about it myself !
The ability to send larger files is for me of the greatest benefit,I send pictures taken with my digital camera and don`t compress them which limited the number of pictures I could send in one email to one or two pictures. With the lifting of the file send size I can now send more pictures.
Having the mail box limit increased is going to be both a good thing and a bad thing for me, though I`m still happy about it.

Yeah, I know what you mean about it being a good/bad thing... My boyfriend apparently has every email I've ever sent him. (I mean, I can understand saving the really, really good ones, but all of them?)

I'm one of the ones affected, too. I check my home emails remotely through Yahoo mail.

LadyM, if you don't like the color scheme, you can still change it like you always could. It's still in the Mailbox Options.

Yes, I have Yahoo! e-mail and I still can believe it. 100 MB is awesome. But how did they go from 4 or 6 MB to 100??? There won't be problems to access the accounts from now on, right? On the e-mail the Yahoo! people sent, it says that now the access will be faster, but with so many people having 100 MB of storage, I really wonder what will happen. But anyway, I'm thrilled with the 100 MB news

When I read the title of this thread, "Yahoo: Increase Your Size," I thought that FunTrivia had been spammed along with my e-mail.
Now I find out, with relief, that Yahoo! is increasing the storage space for it's customers. Whew.

hehehe - that was my intention with the topic.

As for the colours, I changed to grey/sky blue and it's a little better... not perfect, but better.

Shows what the threat of a little competition will do ah? We get threats of Gmail and then when people express interest despite the privacy issues suddenly Yahoo jumps from 4 (6) to 100 ... got to love the free market

It's a good sign that looks as if the bandwidth and data handling capacities etc. must be increasing drastically. Now does anyone think Hotmail may just follow? Please...

It could very well happen now ... I think I saw a thread above where another provider has got 1 Gb on offer, Gmail is beta testing their's, Yahoo has changed and I think Hotmail will have to, or they could very well lose a lot of people using it. I hope they do but we have to wait I guess

I hear that Hotmail plans to make its own "dramatic change" in July, which is when Microsoft's new fiscal year begins.

Also, apparently Hotmail and Yahoo have been blocking GMail invitations and/or transferring them to the "Junk" / "Bulk" folders respectively: treating them like spam.

Hehe... I would think so! But that's why I learned to ALWAYS check my junk mail folder before clearing it out... Apparently it was also looking at my legitimate emails from my accounts that are forwarded to Yahoo as spam.

It's always wise to check out your bulk folder - sometimes I couldn't believe what ended up there - once or twice some very serious stuff ... didn't know about them blocking Gmail ivites - like that'll do any good, it'll only make people angry and get accounts with Google on purpose. I know I would ... not that I won't anyway

Thanks for the info on Hotmail!

I was also very happy to see my percentage of storage drop down to 1% from 20 or so. I can't help but wonder what exactly it is that makes free e-mail accounts have a desire to improve. Oh well! It was slow and impossible to access the first day, but I was relieved when things went smoothly again the second day. With the bulk folder, there is an option to look through it and select certain things as "not spam." I did that, and now what I want to goes into my inbox. I really like the spam filter feature.

Just read in today's paper: Hotmail plans to increase its storage quota to 250 Mb, beginning "this summer".

That's the truest statement I've seen in ages! My hotmail account makes me so mad sometimes. Legitimate emails usually seem to wind up in my junk mail (unless the sender is on my "safe list" but no matter how many times I block emails trying to get me to enlarge a part of my body I don't even have, THOSE emails always get delivered to my inbox. The amount of spam I get has decreased lately, but at one time I was averaging 30 pieces of junk each day!

Yahoo's doing it again - now we all get 250MB free (although my inbox doesn't reflect this yet!).

Speaking of a change in size, Hotmail just went from 2MB to 250MB recently themselves. I have been getting 250MB with Yahoo! for quite some time, but then again, I have their DSL plan which gave us 250MB at first.

Now Yahoo is up to 1GB of storage - the same as Gmail.

No, not the same as Gmail. Gmail went up to 2+ gigabytes, which is why Yahoo! decided to increase again. My Gmail is at 2.181 gigs at the moment.

Ah, I hadn't looked at the total listed on my Gmail account lately.
