Just read this on AOL news, and am posting verbatim.

A group of underground hackers has produced the world's first virus designed to spread through the latest mobile phones.

The worm, named Cabir, jumps from phone to phone by using the handset's wireless Bluetooth connection. It then scans for other Bluetooth-enabled devices, sending itself disguised as a security file to any that are accessible.

It can only infect smartphones running Symbian software - used to power millions of Nokia phones, such as the popular 6600 model.

The file must be accepted by the mobile phone owner and then installed before it can propagate. Security experts say that the worm has no malicious code attached as yet, but it is only a matter of time.

The worm was sent to security software firms Kaspersky Lab of Russia and US-based Symantec by a member of 29a, a group of virus writers from the Czech Republic and Slovakia who pride themselves on creating "proof of concept malicious viruses," Kaspersky Lab spokesman Denis Zenkin said.

"This is the very first version of a network worm which propagates via mobile phones," he said.

I expect some will do just that depending on how it is presented. Perhaps if a message were to read 'Install this to protect yourself against the Cabir worm' that might do it. A bit like the way people can be persuaded to open file attachments when they contain viruses.

Also if it comes disguised as a message from the network operator. I get a few messages a month from O2, and I have no idea what they are about until I read them.

I would be so grateful to someone who would spread the rumour that this virus/worm whatever, is activated by the unnecessary, prolonged and overloud use of mobiles. That would please me no end.
