OK, who was the other smarty-pants that picked Ruthenium? hmmm?

It was spanishliz.

I was surprised that, with 13 people playing, only one person picked Slytherin.

PM sent for round 3.

Funny thing is, I rejected Slytherin on the last one, thinking it and Gryffindor would be heavily backed! On the other hand, ruthenium was the element that first came to mind.

Here are the results of Round 3. We had 18 entries.

Question 1 Man who walked on the moon

Worth 10 points
Alan Bean, Gene Cernan, Harrison (Jack) Schmitt

Worth 5 points
Neil Armstrong (5), James Irwin (3), Charles Duke (3), Charles (Pete) Conrad (3), Buzz Aldrin (2)

Question 2 Child of Queen Victoria

Worth 10 points
Alfred, Helena

Worth 5 points
Louise (4), Leopold (4), Beatrice (3)Arthur (2), Arthur (2), Albert Edward (Edward VII) (2)

One person said George V but he was a grandson of Victoria (his father was Edward VII)

Question 3 Wonder of the World

Worth 10 points
No entry scored 10 points

Worth 5 points
Hanging Gardens (5), Colossus of Rhodes (5), Temple of Artemis (2), Pyramid at Giza (2), Statue of Zeus (2), Mausoleum at Halicarnassus (2)

Question 4 State of Australia

Worth 10 points
Victoria

Worth 5 points
Tasmania (6), New South Wales (4), Western Australia (3), Queensland (2), South Australia (2)

Question 5 Woodwind instrument

This question gave me the most trouble. Especially the saxophones

Worth 10 points
Tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, Cor anglais, clarinet

Worth 5 points
Oboe (7), Bassoon (3), Saxophone (2),

That leaves two answers I am unsure of

a) flageolette. It is a woodwind instrument but I can't find it being a member of the orchestra.
b) Jug. I can't find any instrument called this.

I will willing to accept further evidence of these answers.

I will post scores soon.

Here's what I make the scores to be:

ElfTwinkle (40) 75 + ElfTwinkle 30 = 105

izzi (30) 70 + izzi 25 = 95
Santana2002 (40) 65 + Santana2002 30 = 95
Julia103 (35) 65 + Julia103 30 = 95

ASA (35) 65 + ASA 25 = 90
ozzz2002 (35) 65 + Ozzz2002 25 = 90
Leau78 (35) 65 + Leau78 25 = 90
12791 kr (25) 55 + 12791 kr 35 = 90
spanishLiz (30) 55 + spanishliz 35 = 90

treble99 (30) 65 + treble99 20 = 85

helen295 (25) 50 + helen295 30 = 80

SusanV (30) 50 + Leau78 25 = 75

Copago (-) 40 + copago 25 = 65
theoryman14 (-) 35 + theoryman14 30 = 65

Lothruin (30) 30 + Lothruin 25 = 55

marchmadness (-) - + marchmadness 25 = 25
Eraserhead (-) - + Eraserhead 25 = 25

JaneMarple (-) - + JaneMarple 20 = 20

Do we really need cumulative scores? It's just as much fun taking each game on a daily basis and it would be a lot less hassle for you to manage.

I know that it's not to be taken too seriously anyway, and that the scores really aren't very important, but if the maximum that people can get each day is 50, it might deter newcomers from joining in as they would find it difficult to catch up.

Hope your head's beginning to clear a little now, Kuu.

PM for Round 4 is on the way!

The cumulative scores (or any scores, for that matter) don't mean a lot, but I think Kuu intends to have each game be a set number of rounds, so newcomers will be able to get in on the next game from the beginning, yet still have the fun of playing the later rounds of the current game.

This game was more of a trial run and I am opened to any suggestions. When I started the game I thought about 7 or 8 people would be playing at the most not 18 or maybe more.

I would be quite happy to run it more as a daily game and not have cumulative scores. Though I will only be able to run it 4 days of the week because we often aren't home on the weekends. If someone wanted to run it on the other days I would mind as it means I could occasionally play.

We could actually tally up how many rounds people win and have a monthly winner if some people like competiton.

I am also opened to suggestions for questions especially on topics I don't know much about. So far I have lists of asteroid, planets and their moons, geography, animals, people and their children, Oscar winners, Presidents, and topics I have already covered. At the moment I think I will might have to discard questions with under seven answers as so many people are playing.

how about a dual sort of table? I have trouble explaining things so bear with me ...

We each get our daily points but instead of them being cumulative the winner(s) would get say 5 points, second 3 points and third 1 point. So newcomers would find it easy to 'catch up'. Make sense?

Also, instead of the work being all down to Kuu perhaps we could make it a joint effort with one or two others being the quizmasters as well (I volunteer!) so each person would only have to do one or two batches a week.

This is your game Kuu so it's all up to you
