Just when we think we're onto something.

The FAQ poll has been answered. Actually you should read it, it's quite funny the way she answers it.

Mark Evans is a nobody. A background person who was accidentally given the name Evans. Apparently it wasn't until we started theorising about it that she realised what she'd done.

So we're back where we started. AGAIN

do you ever get the feeling that we read more into what she writes than she ever meant ?!

In a way its good though that we are wrong on that one because we can go on speculating.. I definitly think the Dean Thomas idea could be onto something though ....

I think we do read into things a little too much but she does open herself up to it. She herself realised that the way she wrote Mark Evans was just like one of her "surprise" characters. Like Sirius Black who was kinda mentioned in passing, only to leap into the foreground. Same again with Ginny Weasley. We've started to keep an eye out for those characters so when she named a kid Mark EVANS we all went "*GASP* That must means something".

I'm not sure about Dean Thomas. Doesn't she mention that it was cut because it wasn't important?

I think you are right about Dean Thomas - I think she said his story gave way to Neville's because Neville's was more important for the main story.
So probably it isnt him...

oh well...

The new FAQ Poll is up. The three questions are:
1. Is Percy working undercover for any secret organization/boss?

2. Where has Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) been since the end of Goblet of Fire?

3. What did Dumbledore's Howler to Aunt Petunia mean? ('Remember my last')

Time to vote!

I just kind of stumbled into this thread, so I didn't really have the time to think about some theories (I used to be quite good at making up some, as you might have seen in the book 5 predictions thread).

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ BOOK FIVE YET, QUIT READING THIS POST NOW!

Ever since I read about it, I've been thinking what those hidden clues in CoS could be. The only thing I can remember right now is that Percy is at some point in CoS reading a book about seizing power. That could be something, especially now when he behaves so strangely. So this idea of Percy working underground is not at all far-fetched. Was it here in this forum that someone said, if you read between the lines of Percy's letter to Ron you can extract something completely different, namely Percy warning Ron of the changes about to take place? I don't quite remember who wrote it 'cause I just went over the thread, not reading everything really carefully.

Another one of my "little ideas" is that I'm really quite certain that Sirius will somehow come back. After all, we never learned exactly how he died, or what this veil means. I have my own theory about this... if you're interested, please visit www.fanfiction.net and read my story "Harry Potter and the Return of the Lost" (my user name is also PearlQ19; you can find the story best if you search for my profile and then just click on the story link). Sorry for this "advertising", it's just that my story has been online for quite a while and it's barely been read. There are so many HP stories that it's practically impossible to find a specific one by chance. I'd be really glad if some of you could give me some feedback.

The big question is still: Who else will die? I can't forget that JKR said, one of the deaths will be "horrible to write". I'm really fearing for Ron, Hagrid and Dumbledore; I'm (sadly) almost certain that it will be one of them...

Are Harry and Ginny getting together, after all? I'm quite an H/G 'shipper, and although there was this change in Ginny's feelings in book 5, I still think it's possible. I actually found a whole series of "clues" that made me hope again; a sort of connection between Harry and Ginny and also a sort of rivalry between Ginny and Cho, and Ginny is constantly "winning" over Cho (thank God we got rid of Cho, by the way).

Dumbledore's brother may appear, don't you think?

My English is getting worse and I'm running out of ideas, at least off the top of my head. I'll come back when I have reconsidered things and worked out my other theories.

Seeya!

I still think Dumbledore brother is very important indeed...or even Dumbledore himself!
Personally I think Sirius is dead, and won't return I like the idea Remus Lupin in the HBP though.

I read on a website (I think it was mugglenet) that in book six we will find out why Sirius had to die (in terms of the greater good). If that is a rumour, jk hasn't said so on her rumours page. His death wasn't thrown in to increase the drama. She has a plan, but I doubt it involves him coming back. I'm not ruling out the possibility of contact (like verbal, or something involving the mirror he gave Harry), but I don't think he'll come back properly.

In regards to a death being horrible to write, my bets on Dumbledore. I don't want it to be him, but of all the characters in book 5 who had to go, i really, really, really didn't want it to be sirius.

There are so many "horrible deaths" waiting, if you think about it.

Could it be...

Professor McGonagall?
Mr. or Mrs. Weasley? (Harry losing another set of parents, practically)
Snape? (maybe he dies saving Harry's life AGAIN, which we all know he can't stand the thought of)
Percy? (maybe he really is working undercover for someone, and actually is a good guy? ................... nah......)

One of the students?

Ginny?
Draco? (oh, right.. that wouldn't be horrible..)
Neville.... could be...

The ones you've mentioned..

Hagrid? possibly...
Dumbledore? not very likely, he is too powerful.
Dumbledore's brother - we don't know him, so why would that be horrible?

I reckon that either Dumbledore or his not much know about brother are either connected with Lord Voldemort or will die soon. Don't want Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville or Hagrid to die...doesn't leave many people!

We were all wondering, before book 5 came out, who would be the important character that would die.

But now after reading the book, and finding out it was Sirius Black, I didn't think it was that sad. Sure Sirius was great in the third and fourth book, but with all the back story of what he was like as a child, the cruelty he and James played for popularity, and what he is like as an adult in the fifth book, sort of made him not so great anymore.

I am curious to know more about Dumbledore, especially about the howler to Aunt Petunia, and if it is he who dies that certainly would be sad.

Isn't it time we stopped theorizing and just waited for the book to come out? After all, there is such a thing as overkill.

Yes, we do tend to let the imagination run away with everything... but the sooner the book comes out, the sooner we can stop theorising but its been over a year since the fifth came out so all we can do is grab at straws.

i think i might write my own harry potter book, just so i can know what happens

Apparently, she said at a book festival that she is "half way through book six". I am also really looking forward to the next book. I didn't wait queue until midnight for it, but pre-ordered it and collected it on the morning it was released! Ashamed to admit it, but glanced at the last few pages to make sure the "big death" wasn't Harry, Hermione or Ron!

I found this on wanadoo my homepage when i come on internet

Rowling clues delight Potter fans
Harry Potter

author JK Rowling delighted a small group of her devoted fans by giving her first public reading in Scotland for four years - and giving away a few clues as to how the seven-book series might progress.

The world-famous writer teased lucky young fans with morsels of information as she made a rare public appearance in her home city at the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

She told them her eponymous hero would "survive to book seven" but refused to confirm whether he would grow up to be a wizard.

And she revealed that there were two vital questions she had never been asked about the series which might help to unravel its mysteries.

The best-selling author jokingly chastised herself for being "shockingly indiscreet", but she kept her mouth tightly shut when asked about the title of her seventh book.

The event, in front of over 500 people, marked her fifth appearance at the annual literary festival.

The 39-year-old author read a passage from her fifth Potter novel, the Order of the Phoenix.

The mother-of-two was asked whether Harry would "grow up as a wizard", to which she replied: "He will survive to book seven, mainly because I don't want to be strangled by you lot, but I don't want to say whether he grows any older than that."

But she remained tight-lipped about the title of her final book in the series, saying: "I'm not going to tell you, I'm sorry.

"The trouble I would be in if I did!"

Hey all, I'm new. Get this! The official JK Rowling website has been updated and you can now read a piece of the book (number six) if you know how to do it. Since I don't want to bother with that, I'll show you what is behind the door. Keep in mind, if you haven't read through to the fifth book, this may be something you don't want to look at. Scroll Down!

"He looked rather like and old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace eben though he walked with a slight limp."

Yes, I read the new information on the Rowling website, I reckon that description is either the new DADA teacher or Godric Gryffindor.

SilverMoonsong,
There is a light switch towards the middle of the door, just barely below the level of the door handle. Click around a bit and you'll find it eventually.

JaneMarple,
I agree with you on those guesses, and the latest guesses seem to be that maybe Gryffindor is the Half Blood Prince.
There's also a big "Hagrid is the HBP" faction. I think I like that idea.
