This has nothing to do with Book six really, but being Potter fans, I was thinking you could all apreciate the humor....

My wife and I just found out that she is pregnant with our first child. We then realized that she had to find a new doctor. When we found one that met our criteria, her name hit us...Pettigrew. Our first child will be delivered by someone that I think of as a relative of Peter "Wormtail" Pettigrew. I just hope I don't call her Wormtail to her face.

Firstly...congratulations! Secondly...it would be worse if the name was Riddle!

Is it ok to ask the readers that have seen the first three movies as they read the newest HP do you still hear the voice of Richard Harris as Dumbledore?
I do and it makes me smile.
I am not sure how I will feel when I get to see the movie without him.

Yes I think Michael Gambon fills the role quite well

Well I will always hear R.H in my head when I am reading the books.
The movie is another thing. I am sure Michael Gambon is good I haven't seen the last movie yet.

I finally finished the latest book.
I have a feeling the last one in the series will knock our socks off and have us all Cheering for Joy.

I am not a fan of Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. I so miss Richard Harris, and yes, I still hear his voice when I am reading.

I nearly cried too! I all-out bawled after I read the 5th book, because Sirius was my favorite character. I'm hopeful he's still alive somehow.

It's been driving me mad not being able to discuss this book with anybody at home. My husband is still reading it and my mom hasn't started it yet. I was so upset while I was reading it because a local television newscaster gave part of the story away one morning. I can't believe that he wasn't fired for that. Anyway, the story was so good and probably my favorite one so far.

Oh SilverMoonsong I am so glad you hear him too.
He just took the role and made it his and although they have had to find another actor that doesn't mean people will ever forget his owning that role.
I use to adore watching him being interviewed when the movies came out.
Thank you for sharing that with me. I don't feel so alone now.

PF,

I do miss him terribly. He will always be the Dumbledore in my head. I adore the fact that his granddaughter "forced" him into the role.

SilverMoonsong,
Ditto on everything you said.
He was one of a kind and I use to adore watching him on the tonight show with Johnny Carson or the tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder.
He was so witty and charming and had such interesting stories.
It is nice to have someone who sees him as I do.

As far as Richard Harris or Michael Gambon goes, I would vote for Richard Harris too. I think he did a much better job than Michael Gambon does. I just hope that Gambon does a better job than he did in PoA. His Dumbledore was a little disappointing, but he did have a big role to fill. I will always see Richard Harris's portrayal in my head while reading the books though!

My vote is for Richard Harris, too. He portrayed the role with a grace and dignity that has been hard to replace. What got me with Michael Gambon in the movie, though, was the fact the directors/producers decided to tie a little bell to his beard! Never thought Dumbledore was supposed to be comical that way.

Well I am really looking forward to getting hold of the audio book of Book 6, this week, read by Stephen Fry. Love reading the books, but for me , there is nothing like listening to a book read to you! Stephen Fry is excellent at the voices.

I finished the audio book last week and it's very nice, Jane! I've read all the previous Harry Potter books, but this time I was too lazy to visit my sister and pick up her copy. So I downloaded the audio book instead, and it was much better than I'd expected. The voices were excellent indeed!

Having all the tapes and CDs by Stephen Fry, I just automatically read it with his interpretation of all the characters.

I think I'm in the minority. Although I loved Richard Harris, I never thought he was quite right for the role. He looked the part, yes, but he acted much too old and feeble in my opinion. Dumbledore was an energetic, strong, vital wizard and I rather missed that in Harris's interpretation.
While I don't think Michael Gambon is perfectly suited for the part either, I do think he's got thhe "essence" of Dumbledore down better.

I agree with you. I also think Richard Harris looked like Dumbledore but I remember thinking when I first watched the Philosopher's Stone, that his voice sounded weak and he spoke too slowly. Just didn't sound like a powerful wizard to me.
Michael Gambon tends to speak too quickly though ...
Something in between would be great!

I just rewatched 'Return of the King', and it occurred to me that Ian McKellen did such a great job of Gandalf, he might have made a superb Dumbledore as well.

I was hoping to see Christopher Lee take over, but he turned down the role. I do believe Ian McKellan also turned it down, as he didn't want to be typecast as a wizard in future movies.
