Question:

What is a Ken Jennings?

Websters defines a "Ken Jennings" thusly:

1. One who knows all.

2. A trivia master of the highest degree.

3. One who knows trivia answers without the benefit of already having seen the answers or using Google to find them (unlike many at quizzyland).

I am more than a little confused, what is this to do with Current Events - or have you posted it in the wrong forum?

Sorry to confuse you Sue, but Ken Jennings is indeed a current event. Perhaps some other responders may know of him. A Google search may help to introduce you to him if you haven't already seen him.
I just wanted to post some "good news" current events for a change.

Ah. Since there are so many non-Americans it might have been easier for us if you could have provided a link so that we could have read the story.

Sorry but my ineptness at computer skills is legendary.

I'm thinking he'd find a ton of errors in the quizzes online as he knows so much... On one hand, I hope he finds the site as that would be really cool, on the other hand, I don't want to deal with all the correction notices.

For those that haven't seen him he's a wonder to behold. As one news article pointed out, it's like watching a legendary athlete at the top of his game.

I would think that those of us at a trivia site (this is still a trivia site isn't it?) would be especially interested.

We all know he will lose one day, perhaps tonight, but it's still fun to watch it. They tell me Jeopardy ratings are up 30 percent or more.

For all the hype, part of me wonders how many others like him the show had, but we never knew about. They changed the rules in the beginning of the season (Fall 2003) so that you don't have to leave the show after having won 7 days in a row, you can keep playing until you lose.

So although yeah, it's pretty cool how good he's doing, I can't get too enthused about it because I just feel really sorry for those who never had this opportunity to go as far as he has.

Yes ladymacb I agree with that. I have felt that there may have been one or maybe two others that might have been as good. Certainly no more than that though. Frank Spangenberg comes to mind as the best I've seen previously. I wouldn't doubt that a tournament gets arranged between Ken and the former masters.

He is good, though I bet some of our best players would give him a run for his money. He has a real advantage by now, I think, in that he is familiar and at ease with being on the show, and with the buzzer. The challengers in the last couple of weeks have seemed a little intimidated by it all, so he has the psychological advantage too.

Oh, definitely! Any idea why they stopped that rule? I think maybe instituting where you can only be in 30 episodes would work because of the reasons you gave above.

Still a current event, Ken has now been on for over 40 episodes. He still dominates convincingly. Are there still those out there that have never heard of him? Perhaps.
He's over a million and a half in winnings thus far.

I have heard that a news story has leaked out that he does eventually lose.

I heard he loses somewhere around game 75 or so. They have already taped that episode from what I understand.

I've been watching, and, if the categories are right, I can get about as many right as he can. In other words, he IS good, but I think a lot of us here are just as good. What defeats many of his opponents, I think, is his ease with being there, he's not nervous anymore, and he has the use of the signalling device down pat.
I wish I wish I wish I lived in that part of the world, so going on the show was an option for me!
